HP finals
The Madill senior boys soccer
team travel to Stratford on Friday
to compete in the Huron -Perth
championship.
The senior Mustangs earned the•
berth in the Huron -Perth champi-
onship on Monday, by scoring a 5-
1 decision over the South Huron
Panthers, in a game played in Ex-
eter.
Senior Mustang coach Jack
Mali said in order to post the vic-
tory on Monday, the Mustangs had
to shut down the Panther offence.
He added that the defence
should be credited with playing a
strong game.
"Goalkeeper Simon Glausser
made a couple of big saves early
in the game," said Mali.
Randy Beuermann paced the
Mustangs offence with a four -goal
performance. Pat McGlynn con-
tributed a single marker in the vic-
tory.
The Mustangs reached the Hu-
ron County final, by scoring a 4-1
decision over the Seaforth Golden
Bears on Friday.
' Chris Patterson booted a pair of
goals for the Mustangs, with sin-
gle markers added by Nathan
Stewart and Pat McGlynn.

Shawn Fair stole home in the
bottom of the seventh inning to
give the Belgrave Juveniles a 5-4
decision over Bnisselandldogs in
Huron County •Fastbill League
play Sunday in Belgrave.
The Bulldogs opened the scor-
ing in the game with a pair of runs
in the first inning. Belgrave re-
bounded with four runs of their
own in the bottom of the inning.
Brussels scored two runs in the
top of the sixth inning to even the
score at 4-4.
The Juveniles won the game in
the bottom of the seventh. Fair
walked and moved to third on
Shane Pegg's single. With two out
and two strikes on the batter, Fair .
stole home with the winning run.
Keith Todd started on the
mound for Belgrave, with Jason
Kieffer taking over in the fifth in-
ning to claim the victory. They al-
lowed six hits and eight walks and
combined for five strike outs.
Dave Smith lasted six innings
on the mound for Brussels before
being relieved by A. McCincheon.
They gave up five hits and a pair
of walks, and recorded nine strike
outs.
Centre fielder Dan McPherson
had a pair of singles in four at -bats
for Belgrave. Second base player
Brent Robinson drove in two runs
in the first inning with a single,
and first base player Joel Pegg
clubbed a two -run home run in the
first inning.
J. Miner had a triple and single
for Brussels in four plate appear-
ances and G. Mulvey had a triple
in two at -bats.
Ken Hogg and Shane Pegg each
made a couple of good defensive
plays, at third base and shortstop,
respectively.
Minor
soccers
off kicking
The Wingham Minor Soccer
squirt teams began the 1995 sea-
son last Thursday evening at the
Sacred Heart School pitch.
There are four teams in the
squirt division, Green, Red, Yel-
low, and Blue. The players ere 6,7
and 8 years of age. The teams will
play every Wednesday between 7
and 8 p.m.
The Yellow Team played the
Blue Team to a 1-1 draw last
Thursday.
Despite the rain and the mud,
all the players had a great tinlek
and everyone is looking forward
to a rewarding season.

GODERICH - Higher, faster, far-
ther.
The Madill track and field ath-
letes were off and running, and
jumping, and throwing to school
and meet records at the Huron -
Perth track and field champion-
ships held last Tuesday and
Wednesday.
The overcast, rainy weather did
little to dampen the spirits of the
60 hardworking Madill athletes as
they competed in the track meet.
Competition began May 3 with
the pole vaulters taking to the Ma-
dill field. Holding true to tradition,
Madill valters accumulated 44
points.
