Summer is rapidly approaching
and with it "SummerActive '95", a,
Canada wide program being of-
fered between May 15, 1995 until
July 15, 1995. It is replacing the
very popular "Canada's Fitweek"
as a campaign promoting the bene-
fits of regular physical activity'.
The goal of the program is to en-
courage people, especially those
who are inactive, regardless of age,
ability or gender to choose an ac-
tive, healthy lifestyle.
We all realize how important it
is to get active, however for one
reason or another the majority of
Huron County residents do not
make regular physical activity part
of their daily lives. The Physical
Activity Community Action Group
for Huron County would like to
change ,this fact. As part of the
kick off to "Summer Active '95"
between May 15 - 31, events and
activities promoting active living
will be offered in six host commu-
nities throughout the County - Ex-
eter, Clinton, Seaforth, Vanastra,
Wingham and Goderich.
So, it addition to the already
popular physical activities offered
through, the individual Recreation
Centres, special events will be
planned, and representatives from
numerous Ontario Sporting Associ-
ations will be offering activities,
events and clinics around the
County. This would allow all
members of the public an opportu-
nity to observe and experience a
variety of physical activities either
free of charge or for a small fee.
just for the fun of it!
We have also approached a
number of groups in these towns,
ie. schools, health care facilities,
community services, seniors etc. to
show. some community spirit and
join in the fun by organizing activi-
ties and events for their members.
With all these activities and events
going on, the County will be buzz-
ing with activity between May 15 -
31.
If you have any questions or
would like more information about
"SummerActive '95", call .your lo-
cal Recreation Director or Sandy
ldelsward at the Huron County
Health unit in Clinton (519) 482-
