At approximately 7 p.m. on May 1, during the afternoon shift, the Wingham foundry reached one million employee hours without a lost time accident. The foundry is proud of the 450 full-time employees and students who strongly support a safe and team oriented work place. "In March of 1995, we complet- ed a year with no lost-time Wing- ham," eat Wescast foundry " _ ham,' said Wescast Industries officials. "We attribute this record to an overall safety awareness and commitment throughout This is accomplished by work- ing on the buddy system, watching out for each other, and training new employees to work in a safe manner. Over the past few years, Wes - cast has focused on many new safety programs and procedures such as lockout, accident investi- gation, modified work, confined space, ergonomics, se leg- islatedll as programs likeWFMIS an d Core Certification. "We also offer an extensive safety video library and computer training program," said company officials - Safety representatives meet on a weekly basis to identify depart- mental concerns, and the joint health and safety committee ed is hi -monthly and is comp of both management and production employee representatives.
