Leap for glory...Pat McGlynn of Madill leaps high
to make a return in the senior boys singles badminton champi-
onships, held last Wednesday at the Wingham high school.
Minor
soccer
up in '95
Wingham minor soccer held its
registration on April 1, with 170
youngsters signing up for the 1995
season. That is more than double
the number from last year.
The number of teams has al-
most tripled, from four to 11.
Growth has been at all age levels,
with four teams of squirts (6-8
year olds),, three atom teams (9-11
year olds), two mosquito teams
(12-13 year olds), and a bantam
team.
Wingham Minor Soccer has
grown from the smallest in the
North Huron Soccer League to the
second largest. Other members of
the league include Lucknow,
Blyth, Goderich, and Clinton.
Growth has also been noted in
each of the other centres.
`Growth is due in part to the pos-
itive exposure soccer had with the
World Cup in the United States
last summer, and the negative im-
age of professional baseball with
the players and umpires still with-
out a contract. Also adding to, its
increased popularity is the sim-
plicity of the game itself, and the
low cost of equipment
