Hawks round out season
with Mississauga. tournarnent
Wingham, Pee Wee Hawks trav-
elled to Mississauga on Friday to
compete in the Ontario Women's
Hockey Association (OWHA)
Championship at the Meadowvale
Four Rinks.
The ,Hawks competed in the 'B'
division, along with Peterborough
East Lions, Sarnia Starfires, Blue -
water Hawks, Scarborough
Sharks, Nepean Blacks, Barrie
Sharks, Niagara Falls Chippewa
IGA,'Sudbury District, and Brock-
ville Angels.
The Hawks went up against
Brockville Bell Canada Angels, an
eventual semi-finalist, on Friday.
The Angels built up a 2-0 lead in
the first period on goals by Brian-
na Palubskie and Becky Klein-
Swormine, Despite several oppor-
tunities, the Hawks were unable to
score until late in the third period
when Heidi Meier scored, after
Randi Pilger had carried the puck
the length of the ice. The final
score was 2-1 for Brockville.
On Saturday afternoon, the
Hawks played Nepean. Wingham
..built up a 2-0 lead on a pair of
goals by Jenni Campbell. Tracey
Palinski earned a pair of assists
and Sarah McNichol had one help-
er.
Nepean narrowed the score late
in the first period on a goal by Su-
san McCutcheon. McCutcheon
added another early in the second
period to tie the game at two.
There was no scoring in the final
period as the game ended in a 2-2
deadlock.
In the team's' final gaine of the
round-robin, the opposition was
provided by Barrie. Bradford Tire
Sharks.
Barrie built up a 3-0 lead in the
first 11 minutes of the game on a
pair of goals by Judy Ryan and
one by Lindsay Hollinger.
The Hawks got back into the
game on goals by Ashley Camp-
bell from Meier and Pilger, and
Pilger unassisted.
Ryan completed her hattrick
late in the third period to squelch
any further comeback by the
Hawks.
Playing for the Hawks this sea-
son were Ashley Campbell, Jenni
Campbell, Jessica Clermont, Be-
thany Lindsay, Sarah McNichol,
Heidi Meier, Tracy Palinski, Ran -
di Pilger, Courtney Reid, Jill Van
Dam, Tammy Walker and Court-
ney Zinn.
The Hawks played a total of 46
games during the season. Their
overall record was 18 wins, 21
losses and seven ties. for 43
points. The Hawks scored 117
goals, while giving up 97.

Seven teams ready
for Bluewater action
Seven teams will be competing
in the Bluewater Fastball League
for 1995 when the playerstake to
the field next month.
League champion Chepstow
Aces are back to defend their title.
The Wingham Colts will return' for
another season of league fastball
play.
The only change this year, is
that there will only be' two teams
playing out of Belmore. The Bel-
more Juniors have folded because
of work commitments and players
being too old to play junior ball.
1te Belmore Stingers will play
all their home games at the Bel -
more ball field, while the Interme-
diate Steelhawks will play home
games at either the Belmore or
Wroxeter ball fields.
The 1995 regular season gets
underway at 2 p.m. on May 14
with the Colts taking on the Steel -
hawks at the Josephine Street ball-
park. The first game for the Sting-
ers is May 15 when they host
Palmerston beginning at 8:45 p.m.
The Colts are in Clifford on
May 16 for an 8:45 p.m. contest
against the 4 Aces.
Jeff Dickson of Wingham is the
president of the league. Tom _
Deyell of Wingham is the treasur-
er and Don Busby of RR 3 Wal-
kerton is the statistician. Jerry De-
Bruyn of Clifford is the past
president.
The directors are Buck Hamil-
ton for the Steelhawks, Dave Ea-
die for the Stingers, Brian Zettel
for Chepstow Aces, Reg Walls for
Clifford 4 Aces, Wayne Martin for
the Palmerston' Midgets, Doug
Pierce for the Lakeshore Heat, and
Doug Neil for the Colts.
The league is still looking for a
vice-president.
Umpire clinics
slated for WOAA
The Western Ontario Athletic
Association (WOAA) will be con-
ducting a series of softball umpire
clinics during April.
The first clinic is being held to-
day from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Hano-
ver Coliseum. Instructors for the
•
clinic are John Craddock and Har-
old Turnbull.
Two clinics are scheduled for
next Wednesday. Craddock, Turn-
bull and Ben Blackwell are the in-'
• structors for the clinic being held
at the Paisley Community Centre
from 7 to 10 p.m. in Paisley and
Rick Vivian and Doug Smith are
the instructors for the 7 to 10 p.m.
clinic at the Mitchell Arena in
Mitchell.
Craddock and Blackwell are the
instructors for a clinic being held
from 9 a.m. to noon at the Durham
Legion in Durham on Saturday,
April 22. Vivian and Smith are the
instructors for a clinic set for the
Elma Community Centre in At-
wood from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday,
April 23. Craddock and Dave Mil-
lern will be the instructors at a
clinic being held in the upstairs of
the Formosa Community Centre in
Formosa from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on
April 23.
Vivian and Smith are the in-
structors on Wednesday, April 26
for a clinic at, the Shakespeare
Fire Hall in Shakespeare, from 7
to 10 p.m.
Craddock will be the instructor
for a clinic at the Harrison Park
Community Centre in Owen
Sound, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on
Saturday, April 29.
Craddock and Jerry DeBruyn
are the instructors for a clinic at
the Cargill Park Building in Car-
gill, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on
Sunday, April 30.
