Larry Hindle said the hospital will
be fully computerized over the
next year.

with F.E. Madill Secondary
School, is offering computer
courses to the staff, volunteers and
board members in order to become
familiarized with the computers.
Over 90 staff and volunteers have
registered for the courses.
"The response from the staff,
volunteers and board members for
these courses was overwhelming,"
he said.
Hindle said the courses being
offered are Basic DOS-- and key-
boarding and Windows, Wordper-
fect and DOS Basics.
Because of the response from
the hospital staff, the • hospital is
offering the courses to family and
friends of the staff, volunteers and
board members, and to the general
public.
There are a number of time slots
available for the courses, which
begin Monday. The registration
fee is $55 per course per person.
Each course has afive-week dura-

After Palmerston jewelry store
owner Oscar Noll, was' charged for
using a handgun for warding off
intruders in his store, more than
8,000 people signed petitions sup-
porting his right to defend himself
and his property.
Now, as the 81 -year-old jewel-
ler prepares to take on Canada's
judicial system in what could be a
very expensive court action, some
of his supporters are rallying to
raise funds to hap with the legal,
costs.
.Noll was charged on Jan. 10 af-
ter twomen broke into his Main
Street, Palmerston jewelry store
while he was working in the back.
When the glass door of his shop
was smashed at about 3 a.m. and
two men barged in, a startled Noll
grabbed an old .32 calibre revolver
he kept behind the counter and
fired shots at the two intruders.
The following day, Palmerston Po-
lice charged him with assault with
a weapon and storage of a hand-
gun not allowed by permit.
His lawyer, Calvin Martin of
Toronto,'attempted to plea bargain
with Wellington Crown Attorney
Owen Haw; but the Crown has de-
cided to proceed in the case to the
letter of the law. A preliminary in-
quiry into the charges against Noll

is scheduled for April 19 ion
Guelph.
If the case goes to trial, Noll's
legal costs could be as .high .as
$30,000.
The jeweller and his family are
afraind they won't be able 'to af-
ford the court costs, but Noll him-
self is determined to fight this sys-
tem he feels is too forgiving to
criminals, and denies honest citi-
zens the right to defend them-
selves and their property.
The community wants to help
Noll with the costs; and'show their
support for his actions.
Palmerston Town Council has
proclaimed Saturday, April 29 as
"Oscar Noll Day," and a number
of fund-raising events have been
planned in Palmerston.
At .an organizational meeting
held in Palmerston on March 27,
Allan Dettweiler, a supporter of
Noll's, said the local community
and people from outside Palmers-
ton must . come together to help
Oscar Noll win this battle.
"This isn't just Oscar's problem,
it's every citizen of Canada's prob-
lem," he said.
Dettweiler, of Morris .Town-
ship, was among those who
launched petitions in support of
the jeweller.
The Palmerston Legion has do-
nated its facilities for the events,
which will include a community

.Dettweiler said there has been a
lot of support for Noll in Palmers-
ton, but citizens must spread the
word to businesses, service clubs,
and individuals in neighboring
towns as well. ,
He noted that Noll could have
taken the "easy way out" and
pleaded guilty to the charges at his
first court appearance, but he
chose to take a stand, and citizens,
we have an obligation to stand be-
hind him.
"We need to support Oscar Noll
to show our justice system that as
citizens, our rights cannot be trod-
den on," said Dettweiler.
Noll's daughter Joan is the con-
