The total roads budget for 1995 is $659,500. The regular subsidy received by the township fron1. the provincial government is $108,200. The township will spend a total of $222,000 on loose top mainte- nance for roads, including $120,000 for gravel resurfacing, $70,000 for dusting the roads, and $25,000 for grading and scarifying the roads. It will cost the township $32,000 to reconstruct the inter- section of Side Road 25-26 and Concession 7, and Side Road 15- 16 and Concession 9. Council has also allotted 545,000 towards the purchase ofa new tractor. Bert Elliott appointed Continued from front page the last council session with little debate. Clerk -Administrator Jocelyn Murray told council the $250,000 loss in 1994 will still have an effect in 1.995 due to the reduction in un - 0 conditional grants. In total, the county has budgeted $28,395,999 for governing in 1995. Of the -biggest concern for 1995, Murray said pay equity increments for non-union staff have been out- standing since 1990. She said The county war very close to finalizing the situation as only two appellants were left: Money has been estab- lished in reserves for the pay equity process. Under the Pay Equity Act em- ployers are required to pay out one per cent of payroll per year. This means the county will have to pay out an total amount of $500,000 once the pay equity plan is ap- proved. He was appointed Reeve last Wednesday after the resignation of ° Reeve Clem McLellan was accept- ed at the council meeting on March 28. The appointment was made under Section 45 of the Mu- nicipal Act, whereby the office must be filled by a member of council on the date of appoint- ment. During discussion last Wednes- day morning, council noted that it could not justify the cost for hold- ing an election. Council felt that it was in the best public interest to fill the vacant Reeves quickly as possible: An election could take up .to. 90 days to polling day. With no Reeve, the township would not have a • representative on Council for another 90 days. The township has already been without a representative since February. Council felt it was important to have a representative on County Council. McLellan also sat on the Wingham Area Fire Board, along with Councillor John Duskocy. Reeve Elliot was sworn in as the Morris Township representa- tive at the County Council meet- ing last Thursday. Council will then declare a council seat vacant at the April 18 meeting,. and a special meeting will be held to determine. if a councillor will be appointed or elected by the people. At the April 4 regular meeting, council will declare the Deputy Reeve's vacant, and a special meeting will be held t fill the po- sition. Morris Township briefs Financial matters Numerous financial natters were discussed and approved at the March 28 meeting of Monis Township council. The township received 50 per cent of its surplus funds from the Wingham and Area Fire Board. The council approved to pay its 1995 levy of $9,202 from the Mait- land Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA), an eight per cent increase from last year. However, council will write a letter to the MVCA, stat- ing that it doesn't agree with the eight per cern increase. Council will refund $300 to Wayne Fear of Lot 3, Concession 5, for,, the rezoning application that was denied -by' -council. ' The council approved a $100 giant for the Huron County Farm. and Home Safety group for 1995. Because a fund-raising statement was received, council passed a mo- tion to accept the Brussels -Morris -Grey Community Centre board's bud- get as originally submitted. Tenders The Township of Morris awarded its tender for the supplying, crush- ing, loading, hauling and spreading of crushed 'A' gravel for 1995. The tender was for 30,000 tonnes for the south side of the township and 2,000 tonnes for Side Road 15-16, Concession 2-3. The tender was awarded to Donegan's Haulage Ltd. of Listowel with a total bid of $94,844.80, including the GST. The price per tonne for both projects was $2.77. A total of six bids were received. Council received a deputation from Tembind Dust Control at the March 28 meeting. Council decided to tender for calcium chloride, and also received a quote from Tembind Dust Control. The successful bid will be awarded at the Aril 18 meeting of council. Acquire property Moms Township council gave first, second, third and final readings to by-law 14 to authorize the acquisition of property from the Belgrave United Church. The pro erty involved is the Sunshine Cemetery. Support resolution Morris Township council threw its support behind a resolution from the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH), regarding fire- arms control.
