WEDNESDAY, MARCH29,1995 • 111E I <GHAMADVANCE-TIME$ berry Township will enter Union Gas agreement Turpberry will enter a franchise agreement with Union Gas to pro— vide natural gas service to the area. Pending approval of the Ontario Energy Board, the pipeline will be constructed this summer and in ser- vice by September. The line, being constructed. from Clinton to Tees - water, will follow Highway 4 and cost $12 million. Municipalities through which the line will pass are being asked to en- ter standard franchise agreements with Union Gas. Dianne Beatty and Bob Adie of Union Gas attended the March 21 meeting of Turnberry council to discpss the agreement. Beatty said the line will be locat- ed three and one-half to four -feet below ground. the company is in the process of putting an "infra- structure" in place in the Huron and south Bruce counties, said Adie, with "spaghetti" lines connecting the outlying -communities in two to • three years. Councillor Bill Purdon asked if people in the°' rural community could look forward to being served by natural gas any time in the near future. • "Our biggest enemy is distance," said Beatty. The company would have to look at the economics and return on its investment to see ifit would be feasible, she added. 'What cost is there to the town- ship?" asked Reeve Brian McBur- ney. None, he was assured by„Beatty and Adie. "But what if you have to move the line?" McBurney asked. "We wouldn't•• anticipate that,". said Adie. The township will be asked for input on the location of the line, for example to take into account existing Municipal drains, before itis built and will be providz ed with detailed drawings of where it is located. "We work closely with commu- nities," said. Adie, who referred to the Union Gas line as a "boarder" in the township. Council gave first and second reading to the franchise agreement bylaw. It will receive third reading next month. Japanw students visiting Wingham Public Royal Homes 'hat trick' with dream heme It's a "hat trick" for Wingham's Royal Homes as the the company has been chosen for the third time to build the "dream home" for the National Home Show, beginning April 7 in Toronto. Doug Penson, vice president of sales and marketing for Royal Homes, says the modular -home builder is justifiably proud of being selected to build the 1995 dream home, as it did in 1992 and '93. It is a testimony to the Royal Homes' workmanship' and innovation that keeps home show organizers com- ing back to their tried-and-true de- signs. Penson says 'the company sub- mits a design to the home show or- ganizers for their approval. Once the plan was accepted construction started on the 2,700 square -foot, country French bungalow. The house built for the National Home Show really lets the compa- ny "show off' a bit. Only the finest and most up-to-date features go into the dream home, says Penson, estimated to cost in the neighbor- hood of $350,000. And what a home it is.. Even though workmen were still apply- ing the finishing touches last week, Six students from Japan are in Wingham this week, visiting the Wingham Public School. The four girls and two boys are being billeted by families of stu- dents at the school. -The students are 15 years old, and arriGed in Wingham on Friday. They will be leaving this Friday. ' The students are brought to Wingham by teacher Naoyuki Matsuoka, who was an exchange at the local public school several years ago. When Matsuoka taught at the public school, he stayed with the .family of teacher Nancy McKeon. Since returning home to Japan, this has been the fifth time Matsu- oka has brought some students to visit Wingham. • As well as visiting classrooms at Wingham Public. School and teaching some Japanese and oraga- mi, the students visited Niagara Falls, Old Fort George and •the Dundurn Castle on Tuesday. On Thursday they will visit the Strat- ford Festival's Costume Ware- house. On Sunday, the Japanese stu- dents enjoyed a pot luck supper at the United Church. A welcoming assembly was held Monday morning at the school, and a farewell assembly wil be held Friday afternoon. C AN ADA the home is clearly a masterpiece of design and serviceability. A generous use of glass creates an airy, bright atmosphere. Hard- wood floors will run throughout and other unique features include a cutting room off the back terrace, a butler's pantry, a home office and a "great room", the new term for liv- ing room. However, its crowning glory is the French country kitchen, featur- ing rough-hewn beams along the ceiling, walnut cupboards, an im- ported tile floor and lots of big win- dows. Penson says the kitchen alone is worth an estimated $18,000. The seven modules were to be shipped out • Monday from the Wingham plant and to be taken into the home show site at the Canadian National Exhibition grounds Tues- day at midnight. Once cranes have fitted the mod— ules in place at the home show, the work begins to finish it, inside and out, for the opening show opening the morning of Friday, April 7. Decorators will be enlisted to add the finishing touches for the thou- sands of visitors who will see the house before the show's end on April 17. S F I N 1.
