The Wingham Seniors Happy
Gang met on Friday, March 10, at
the Armouries. At. 12 noon, they sat
• down to a delicious potluck dinner.
The meeting opened with the
singing of "0 Canada" and Tom
Smith asked the blessing. A contest
on recognizing local celebrities was
won by Elinor and Raymond Neill.
President Jean Robertson wel-
comed everyone and read an Irish
poem, "The Four Leal Clover". The
roll call was answered by 34 mem-
bers and 13 visitors. A letter from
palliative care was read inviting
members to the luncheon being
held this Friday, March 17, at Bel -
grave. Gord's Old Tyme Music will
play at a dance on Friday evening
at the Armouries, from 8:30 to
11:30 p.m.
A euchre party will be held Tues-
day , March 21, at the Armouries
, and Tuesday, March 28, has been
set to go to Huronlea at Brussels to
entertain .at the March birthday par-
ty. A bus trip to Paris to see the
Walter's family has been set for
Thursday, May 4. See Margaret
McVittie for tickets as there are
only 10 left.
It was decided to make a dona-
tion to the Town and Country
Homemakers.
Doris Bushell introdi►ced and
welcomed the guests for the day,
Earl and Martha Heywood, of
Wingham. Everyone enjoyed their
display of old pictures and story
books -- some true and some fic-
tion. They also sang songs of the
Donnelly fued at Lucan. They were
thanked by Annie Conn.
The next meeting is Friday, April
7, instead of the 14th, which is
Good Friday. The meeting closed
with "God Save the Queen".

meet at Ross. home
WHITECHURCH--The Chalmers
Women's Missionary Society held
its meeting last Wednesday, March
15, at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Jean
Ross. Dessert was served prior to
the meeting and Mary Simpson and
Mrs. Ross were leaders.
Mrs. Ross welcomed everyone
and gave the call to worship. Mrs.
Simpson read the scripture and
meditation, followed by prayer.
Readings on spring were given
by Kathleen Elliott and Dora Neil-
son. A videotape entitled "Waiting
for the Wind" was shown, followed
by the roll call.
The synodical is to be held in Ni-
agara Falls on April 18-19 with
Mildred Purdon planning on attend-
ing.
The meeting closed with a
prayer: The April meeting is the
1lth at Mrs. Elliott's.

BRYCE--At Braemar Retirement
Centre, RR 1, Wingham, on Tues-
day, March 14, 1995, Leslie
George Bryce passed away in his
80th year.
A beloved son of the late Leslie
and Jemima Bryce, he is survived
by his brother, Art and Eileen
Bryce of Culross Township and sis-
ters Peg Walters of Teeswater and
Grace and Wilfred Gilkinson of
Stroud. Mr. Bryce also is survived
by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his
brother Gordon.
Visitation was held at the
McBurney Funeral Home in Wing -
ham on Wednesday, March 15,
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The
complete funeral service was con-
ducted On Thursday, March 16, at
1:30 p.m. with Rev. John P. Vaudry
officiating. Interment Wingham Ce-
metery.
Memorial donations to the chari-
ty of your choice would be appre-
ciated as expressions of sympathy.
COMBA--Doris Edith Comba died
in hospital at Almonte on Wednes-
day, March 15, 1995,. following a
brief illness.
The former Doris E. Brown, she
was the beloved wife of the late
Murray L. Comba (Comba Funeral
Home --C., R. . Gamble Funeral
Home).
Left to mourn the passing of a
dearly -loved mother is Jack DeSad-
eleer (Raelene) of South Australia
and Mrs. Howard (Judy) Morton of
Belgrave. She was the sister of Ed-
win of Windsor.
Mrs. Comba was predeceased by
two sisters, Mrs. Freda Berthiaume
and Mrs. Doreen McMullen and
her brother Robert. She was the
dearly -loved grandmother of Chris
and Karen DeSadeleer and Ian and
Heather Morton.
Mrs. Comba had requested a pri-
vate cremation and those wishes
have been respected.
Friends were invited to join the
family at a memorial service in the
chapel of the C. R. Gamble Funeral
Home, Almonte, on Saturday,
March 18, at 2 p.m. Rev. John An-
derson officiated.
Those wishing may make dona-
tions to the Alzheimers or Canadi-
an Cancer Society.

PENTLAND--Passed away at The
McCormick Home, London, on
Tuesday, March 14, 1995, Mrs.
Janet "Nettie" Pentland, in her 96th
year.
Born in Paisley Scotland, Mrs.
'Pentland came to Wingham as a
small child with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. John Henry Christie. Mr.
"Christie a-§tablished`a"grocery store
here and was organist and choir di-
rector ofthe then Wingham Metho-
dist Church.
Mrs. Pentland was the wife of
the late A. E. Culley Pentland. She
also was predeceased by her sister
Mrs. Bill (Jean) McCool; her broth-
er, Morris Christie and sister-in-
law, Olive Hudson. She is survived
by sisters-in-law Louise Needham
of London and Margaret Christie,
Mississauga.
Also surviving are nephews
Lloyd Needham of London; Garth
Hudson, New York; Graeme Chris-
tie and Brien Christie; Toronto and
one niece, Mrs. Ross Hamilton of
Wingham.
Visitation was held at the Need-
ham Funeral Chapel, 520 Dundas
Street, London, with funeral service
on Saturday, March 18, at 3 ,p.m.
with Rev. Douglas Story of Metro-
politan United Church officiating.
Interment in Grove Cemetery,
London.
LEUNG--Mrs. Sei Leung of Wing -
ham and formerly of Canton, China '
and Hong Kong, passed away on
Thursday, March 16, 1995, at Uni-
versity Hospital in London. She
was in her 89th year and was the
wife of the late Tai Fong Wai.
She was the mother of Wayne
Wai of Wingham, Wing Fong Wai
Tam of Toronto and Wing Yin Wai
To of Hereford, England. Mrs.
Leung also is survived by two
brothers and one sister in Hong
Kong, 13 grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren. She was pre-
deceased by one daughter.
Visitation was held at the
McBurney Funeral Home in Wing -
ham on Friday, March 17, from 7
to 9 p.m. The funeral service was
held at the funeral home on Satur-
SKINN--At Wingham and District
Hospital on Saturday, March 18,
1995, Mrs. Aurelia Skinn of Wing-
ham passed away in her 83rd year.
The former Aurelia Josephine
Kuntz, she was the beloved wife of
the late George Skinn, who prede-
ceased her in 1982.
She was the dear mother of:
Mary and Ray Galgas of Ohio; Sa-
rah and Barry Heisz of Barrie; Au-
relia Weitendorf cif Formosa; Hen-
ry and Doreen Skinn, Robert and
Beth Skinn, Marvin and Judy
Skinn, all of Kitchener; George and
Sharon Skinn, Eugene and Donna
Skinn and Edward and Kelly Skinn,
, all of Wingham.
Mrs. Skinn also is survived by
her brothers Wilfred, Lawrence, Al-
fred and Eugene Kuntz and sisters
Loretta Dimer, Gertrude Opper-
man, Eileen Poechman and Martina
Gutcher. She also is survived by 30
grandchildren and 15 great-
grandchildren.
Mrs. Skinn was predeceased by
her brothers, Francis and Clements
Kuntz, sisters Cecilia Meyer and
Eugenia Kuntz, three infant chil-
dren and two grandchildren.
Visitation was held at the
McBurney Funeral Home on Mon-
day, March 20, from 2 to 4 and 7 to
9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial
was celebrated at Sacred Heart Ro-
man Catholic Church, Wingham,
on Tuesday, March 21, at 11 a.m.
Father Joseph Nevelt officiated.
Spring interment in Sacred Heart
Cemetery, Wingham.
Parish vigil service was held at
the funeral home Monday evening
at 8 o'clock.
Institute
BLUEVALE--Resolutions conven-
or Mrs. Charles Mathers was in
charge of the Women's Institute
meeting on March 8 when 10 mem-
bers were present.
President Mrs. Ralph Darlow
chaired the meeting: Mrs. Ed Pow-
ell presented an excellent and
amusing review of current events.
The roll call, "Something I'm con-
cerned about in our community,"
brought forth many topics, includ-
ing the condition of the streets, safe
driving and safety of the children.
The secretary -treasurer, Mrs.
Harold Johnston, dealt with corre-
spondence and future meetings. A
district report was given by Mrs.
Wendell Stamper and lunch was
served by Mrs. Jack Fischer and
Mrs. Harvey Timm.
The annual meeting will be held
in the Bluevale hall on April 10 at
11 a.m.
St. Paul's
elects
offices
Two parishioners of St. Paul's
Anglican Church in Wingham have
been elected to offices in the Great
Chapter of Huron.
The chapter met at Exeter late
last month with Rev. Vicars Hodge
-of St. Paul's, regional dean, in the
chair.
Carol Farnell of St. Paul's was
elected • to another term as a lay •
member of the Great Chapter exec-
utive. This office involves the plan-
ning of the work of Church
throughout the County. of Huron.
The second member of St. Paul's
elected to office. is Ben Maclntyre.
He has been chosen as one of two
youth observers to Synod from the
deanery. Ben has been active in, the
congregation as' an `acolyte aid In
the youth group.
When . the Anglican Diocesan
Synod is held in May of this year,
Ben will attend and participate in
its deliberations from Sunday to
Tuesday.
Sacred
Heart
retreat
During the Lenten season, the la-
dies of the Catholic Women's
League of Sacred Heart Church in
Wingham are hosting a spiritual re-
treat this Sunday, March 26, from 1
to 4 p.m.
The topic, "Ways To Draw Us
Closer to God and to Others", will
be addressed by Sister Mary St.
Louis of Medaille House in Lon-
don.
All are welcome to join the re-
treat, bring a friend and enrich your
spiritual life. Refreshments will be
available at break time.
GORRIE--Sure an' the dinner table
was attractively decorated for St.
Patrick's Day on this beautiful day
in March when the Gerrie senior
citizens' "Colne Alive Club" held
its potluck dinner at noon.
Gordon Wall and his band of
Wingham was in attendance, along
with members of• the Wroxeter,
Bluevale, Belmore, Fordwich and
Clifford senior citizens' groups. All
joined to enjoy a musical program,
a dance and the "wearing o' the
green".
Norman Shelton of Clifford en-
tertained with his accordian and
sang several Irish songs with Lorne
Lambkin on the guitar. Over 50
seniors enjoyed the afternoon.
A lunch of coffee, tea and cook-
ies was served.
Seniors Day
Please plan to attend an indoor
yard sale at the seniors' day centre
next week,on March 28, 29 and 30
from 8;30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We
hope to have lots of items, from
games, toys and crafts to good used
clothing on display.
Green was the color of choice
last week as we celebrated St. Pat-
rick's Day. Irish antics, games and
songs dominated the Tuesday and
Thursday programs. Last Wednes-
day, we invited Tony Doherty and
Blaire Williams. of Kincardine to
entertain. They played many famil-
iar Irish songs and had everyone
singing enthusiastically.
The Friday program used their
culinary skills to make Irish soda
bread.
The next scheduled foot clinic is
set for next Tuesday, March 28.
