winners
The Murray Mciague and Ron
Knight rinks were the winners in
the Wingham Men's Bonspiel held
at the Wingham Golf and Curling
Club on Saturday.
The Knight foursome won the 9
a.m. draw, sponsored by Tolton
Motors, with three wins and 49.5
points. Members of the rink were
skip Knight, third Don Edgar, sec-
ond Wayne Phibbs, and lead Ray
Walker.
The 11 a.m. draw, sponsored by
the CIBC, was won by the
McKague foursome with three
wins and 50.75 points. Rink mem-
bers included skip McKague, third
Calvin Ruttan, second Niel Edgar,
and lead Bob McKague,
Seven
teams to
compete
Seven teams will be competing
in the WOAA intermediate wom-
en's hockey tournament this week-
end at • the Lockridge Memorial
Arena in Wingham.
Teams competing in the tourney
are from Lucltnow, Elma-Logan,
Goderich, Kincardine, Honey -
wood, Owen Sound and the Wing -
ham Intermediates.
Wingham takes on Lucknow in
the opening game of the tourna-
ment at 9 a.m. Elma-Logan faces
off against Goderich at 10 a.m.
with Kincardine meeting Honey -
wood at 11 a.m. Owen Sound will
face off against the winner of the
Kincardine-Honeywood contest, at
1 p.m..
The championship contest will
be played at"4:15 p.m.
The Wingharn Intermediates
won a teat' set of hockey sticks in
the Hockey Development Centre,
Of Ontario 1995 Milk Energy Pen-
alty Free Sweepstakes. The team's
name was drawn from more than
5,000 teams which had played
penalty -free games from late De-
cember to the end of January.
SHUFFLEBOARD
Tuesday, March 14
Mary Robinson and Jim Johnston
had six wins and were +35 to claim
first place honors in shuffleboard
competition at the Wingham Sports-
men Club last Tuesday.
Norma Golley and Jack Shiell
were second with five wins and +60.
Marg Gavreluk and Gord Welwood
were third with five wins and +47.
Shirley Hackett and Glenn Golley
were fourth with four wins and
+141. Bob Gavreluk and Anne
Thompson were fifth with four wins
and +116.
• Gene Porter and Louise Welwood
were sixth with three wins and +152.
Jean Robinson and Sam Thompson
were seventh with three wins and
+63. Bonnie Shiell and Glen Walker
were eighth with three wins and -24.
Joanne Sproul and Mason Robinson
were ninth with two wins and +154.

Don Frook and Skip Rogers were
first in the double round 50 -point
game 'A' Category of horseshoes at
the Wingham Sportsmen Club last
Thursday with five wins.
Syd Lawson and Al McKenzie
were second with two wins and +45.
Wayne Huber and Eric Hewitt were
third with two wins and +44. Harold
Carter and Bernie Bender were
fourth with one win and +96. Jack
Arnold and Lynn Hewitt were fifth
with one win and +95.
'B' Category
Harvey Bolton and Don Carter
were first in the double round 50 -
point game B' category with four
wins and +35. Jim Bolton and Wilf
Towns were second with four wins
and +31.
Lorne Kuntz and Peter DeGroot
were third with three wins and +79.
Ralph Koopmans and Harold Maize
were fourth with two wins and +93.
John Schaus and Graham Taylor
were fifth with one win and +137.

Danny Stacey and John Schaus
were first in the single round 40 -
point game, horseshoes competition
held Sunday at the Wingham Sports-
men Club. They had four wins and
were +34. Bob Thompson and Brian
Leachman were second with four
wins and +27.
Hank Carter and Dawn Schaus
were third with three wins and +42.
Lome Hamilton and Doug Vander-
woude were fourth with two wins
and +93. Jim Bolton and Andy St.
Marie were fifth with one win and
+104. Dave Golley and Barry Hogg
were sixth with one win and +103.
The Wingham Lions Club Mid-
gets were unable to repeat as
champions of the Iiarriston Mid-
get hockey tournament on the
weekend as they fell in the conso-
lation final.

Joel Riley scored three goals as
Wingham Barry's Esso Novice As
defeated Wiarton 7-1 to win the
Tara Novice Hockey tournament
on the weekend.
Bill McGrail and Bradley Bur-
ton chipped in with two goals
apiece. Tom Pettigrew picked up
three assists and anchored a solid
defence, along with Matt Dixon,
Brendan Chester, and Evan Zinn.
Mark Foerster, Mark Skinn and
Brendon Dinning were a strong
checking line throughout the tour-
nament and chipped in three goals,
two by Foerster and one by Skinn.
Adam Skinn was outstanding in
goals, allowing just three goals in
four games for .750 goals against
average. Wingham also defeated
St. Marys 3-2, Exeter 3-0, and
Barrie 12-0.
Wingham now meets Seaforth
in the WOAA south novice conso-
lation fmal round. Game two goes
Friday at the Lockridge Memorial
Arena at 6:30 p.m.

En their opening game, Minto
avenged last year's opening game
loss by blanking the Lions Club
Midgets 2-0.
The Midgets went up against
Hanover in their second contest,
and needed a shoot out to post the
victory. Nell Mowbray scored
with two minutes left in the game
to lifted Wingham into a 1-1 tie.
Corey Moran and Arley Painter
earned assists.
Neither team scored in the five-
minute overtime period, sending
the game into a shoot out.
Hanover's first shooter scored
on Scott Allen, but then Allen
stopped the next two shooters. Joel

down Forest
Josh Hicks and Jason Thomp-
son scored in overtime on Sunday
as Wingham Wescast Industries
Novice Bs downed Mount Forest
3-1.
Mount Forest scored a 2-1 deci-
sion on Saturday.

lation

The Ontario Senior Games are
coming upon us very quickly.
' The community games are being
held in May or' early June.
The purpose of the games is to
improve physical fitness, improve
one's sense of well being, increase
mental stimulation, increase
recreational involvement, provide
opportunities for social interaction
and allow for co-operation, tennis,
swimming, golf walking,
cribbage, horseshoes, carpet
bowling and lawn bowling.
The Wingham Recreational
Department is looking for
volunteers to help organize and
run the community Senior Games.
