Reliving the Bantam dream
On Saturday, March- 25 at the
Teeswater-Culross Community
Centre, the 1974-75 Ail -Ontario
Bantam hockey team is going to
try and display some of that good
old heart and desire that made
them a championship team 20
years ago.
The team welcomes all family,
friends and fans to come out and
watch a fine hockey game against
the 1994-95 Teeswater Bantams.
Proceeds from the game go to-
wards minor hockey.
Twenty years is a very long
time, but I'm sure a lot of people
attending this game will be able to
remember, not only the players but
also the teams we played against.
For those people who don't re-
member, I will try to let every-
body know who they will see per-
forming some of their old tricks
this Saturday night.
In 1974-75, after capturing the
WOAA championship, the Ban-
tams went on to play West Lorne
in the OMHA quarter -finals, Ca-
yuga in the semi-finals, and Mar -
mora in the finals. The Marmora
m
Bantas was well loaded with tal-
ent with players such as Greg Ter-
rion, who went on to play in the
NHL', and three otters who played
in Major Junior''
Our Bantam team was built
with heart and Soul and a strong
desire to win Teeswater•s fust All -
Ontario hockey championship. Af-
ter falling behind two games,
Teeswater stormed back to win
three straight games, all on one
weekend to become champions.
Here are your 1974-75 OMHA
Bantam champions, with a few
words about each.
Herb Litt - coach. Herb was a
great coach who knew hockey and
had a strong will to win. He could
always get the best out of his
players because he Was respected
by each and every player.
Barry Hill manager. Barry was
an easy-going guy who was al-
ways there to help in any way he
could. Probably Barry's toughest
job was, not handling the players,
but was trying to control the emo-
tions of the coach while on the
bench and in the dressing room.
Dave MacDonald - trainer. Dave
helped out a great deal being
friends with all the players and he
could also tutor along the defence.
Dave Cronin - defence. Dave
could handle a lot of ice time and
was a solid performer on the blue -
line. His conditioning was later
helped with a few trips to Vic Tan-
ny's.
Steve Walters - defence and Barry
Ross - defence. These two guys
were good defencemen and were
moved up to forward in the later
rounds to help because of their
size.
Wayne Hill - defence Better
known as Meathead, Way . was
an all-around great defenceman
who could either make rushes or
pulverize his opponents with
heavy body checks.
Todd McGlynn •- defence. Todd
has promised to bring his boom-
ing, bouncing slap shot back .
Doug Gamble -. goal.. -Doug was
known as the best goalie in his
time. He no longer holds a goal -
stick, but says his wife keeps him
busy mopping die floor.
Frank Leahy -• centre. Frank was
an all-around good player who"
would often draw fans out just to
see him score goals.
Arch MacDonald - left wing. A'
big, tough forward who could
score goals and maybe get the odd'
assist. Arch thought his career was
over until recently whensomeone
told him they are coming out with
velcro skates.
Jim Blackwell - centre. Jim was
the captain of the squad, and back
then had a wrist shot as hard as
any bantam can take a slap shot
these days.
Larry Donaldson - left wing. Bet-
ter known as Dinky, Larry was a.
small guy who could play the
game pound -for -pound with any-
one. Unfortunately you can't user
the word small when describing
him in 1995.
Bevin Kennedy - right wing.. Be-
vin was a fiesty little winger who
could score some goals as long as
he wasn't home helping -his dad
with the cupboards. Htso
Hoot Letteau - centre. Often re-
ferred to as the best centre in Jun-
ior 'C', t's size and stickhan-
dling were a big asset to the team.rry
LaLorenz - centre. Larry had
amazing speed. He was so quick
that the coaches weren't sure if he
knew what direction he was going.
Brad Johnston '- left poring. Brad
liked the rough going as well as
scaring goals. He always knew
when to take his slap shot, as soon
as was inside the curling circles,
he would tee it up.
Clint Pettaplace - left wing. Al-
ways' known as the most gentle-
manly player, he was a good play
maker who would rather set up a
goal, than score one.
Jim Fitzgerald - right wing. ,Jim
was tragically killed in a car acci-
dent in. 1980. He will always be
remembered by his teammates as a .
very good hockey player who
played the game hard every time.
Cameron Kennedy - right, wing.
'Cameron gave it his best every
time out and enjoyed playing as
much as anyone.
Each and every member of the
74-75 OMHA Bantam team has
made- a commitment to come out,
suit up and play this Saturday at 7
p.m.
We hope we have mentioned
someone of interest to every fan
out there so we can: full the arena.
One other point of interest is that
the game will be officiated by
Clark Pollock from Kincardine.
Tho place to be this Saturday
evening is the Teeswater-Culross
Community Centre where you can
see an exciting hockey gable with.
the proceeds going to Teeswater
Minor Hockey. Anyone wishing to
reminisce with the. old bantam
hockey teams is more tbatt: wely

game for a social get together.
Gold med'a.I...Tami Kerr of Wingham was a member
of the Grey -Bruce Alt -stars which captured the gold; medal at
the Ontario ringette championships, held last week in Sudbury.
The Grey -Bruce All-stars played eight games during the four-
day tournament, and won seven, including an exciting 2-1 deci-
sion over previously unbeaten Whitby in the gold medal game.
