The Huron HurricanesAquatic
Club held its second annual• swim-
a -thou Feb. 18 at the Vanastra
Recreation Centre.
Eachparticipating swimmer
completed 200 lengths or five kil-
ometres in a two -flour time period,
The purpose of the swim-athon
was to raise funds to pay for pool
time, to buy necessary equipment
for the swim program, and to cov-
er the cost of hosting swim meets.

The two-hour swim-a-thon was
quite a challenge for most of the
Drag
racing
returns
to Bend
After a 25 -year absence, drag
racing returns to Grand Bend.
Four local businessmen have ac-
tively been pursuing several ve-
nues at the former Grand Bend air-
port — just two miles south of the
village on Hwy. 81 — since 1991..
This year's winter carnival, Fire
on Ice motorcycle racing was held
on one of the facility's new tracks.
At the London Autoshow last
Month, the 1995 racing plans were
unveiled for 1/4 -mile drag racing
on the drag strip which was so
much a part of life at the Bend be-
tween 1964 and 1969. The track
which is to be sanctioned by the
Califdtnia based NHRA will be
open in May for weekly racing on
Sundays, and practising on Satur-
day for cars and motorcycles, as
well as youngsters in the exciting
new junior dragster program. Ex-
tensive renovations including a
new entrance and track resurfacing
are required.
Also announced were plans for
Saturday night racing of micro -
sprints on the 'brand new high
bank 1/8 -mile dirt tri -oval. Close
and fast action are the. 141mark of
these little go=karts` which are
equipped with wings on the top.

Three Mustang cagers
selected for all-star team
Three members of the Madill
Mustangs senior boys basketball
team were selected to the Huron
County all-star squad for the Hu-
ron -Perth All-star game which was
played yesterday at South Huron
in Exeter.
Pat McGlynn, Justin Tessier
and Kris Krieger were the senior
Mustangs chosen for the game.
Members of the junior Mus-
tangs selected to the Huron
County team were Mike Nolan
and Adam Carr.
The senior Mustangs concluded
the 1994-95 season on Feb. 22
wheal they travelled to Stratford to
take on St. Michael's to determine
the third Huron -Perth entry at the
WOSSA championships played on
the weekend in. Tillsonburg.
The Mustangs trailed 24-20 at
halftime as they fell 63-55 to the
Stratford school.
McGlynn was top shooter for
the Mustangs with 17 points.
Krieger and Tessier hooped 11
points apiece for Madill.
