Physical INACTIVITY is a major modifiable risk factor for
Cardiovascular disease - CVD is the #1 killer (27%) of Huron
County Residents. Only 34% of adults are active 3+ times per
week, 28% are active,1 - 2 times per week, 28% are active less
than once per week. Ministry of Health objectives include
"increasing the percent of adults participating in regular physical
activity to 75% by the year 2000."
The Wingham Recreation Department is looking for
volunteers to sit on a SUMMER ACTIVE planning committee to
organize and implement new programs, promoting the benefits
of regular physical activity and encouraging a personal
commitment to an active, healthy lifestyle. The target is all
Canadians regardless of age, ability or gender - with special
emphasis 'on the INACTIVE. Summer Active takes place from
May 15 - July 15, with special attention given to May.15 - May
31, 1995. If you have great ideas, enthusiastic suggestions and
a little bit of time, please call Cheryl at the
