Scott Price.
This year i was fortunate enough
to be received into the Co-op pro-
gram at F.E. Madill Secondary
School. My work placement is at
the Town of Wingham Works De-
partment.
I go to work every second morn-
ing for three hours. During these
three hours , I do various tasks
such as changing oil, picking up
garbage, patching streets and run-
ning a loader tractor. After just a
few weeks on the job, I have
learned what being in the work
force is really like. I have found
that the hands on experience which
I get from Co-op has helped me to
understand and get more out of my
in School subject.
I really enjoy working with my
co-workers. They take time to
show and explain to me what the
job is that they want me to do, and
how to do it. I find this a big bene-
fit in learning how to follow in -

co-workers. They take time out of
their busy schedules to help me to le
learn andunderstand what the
work force is really like. It has
been a really good learning experi-
ence for me and I really enjoy it.
After I graduate this year I hope
to further my education in this
field. I will do this by attending a
school in Milton where I will learn
to operate heavy equipment.
Elias Valdez...Barry Reid Accountants
Every weekday from early in the
morning till late in the afternoon
you can hear the tip -tap of calcula-
tors and computers. All of these
tip -taps are set into rhythm as if
they were practicing for a band.
1 -ii my name is Elias Valdez and
I live just outside of Bluevale on
Highway 86. I am currently in -
grade 12 and am enrolled in the
Co-op program at F.E. Madill Sec-
ondary School. My placement is at
Barry Reid Chartered Accountant
on the main street in. Wingham.
Inside this firm you will find a
warn", peaceful atmosphere. It's
like one friendly family helping
one another accomplish their goals.
This 'family works together to pro-
vide the service of accounting to a
wide variety of clients. These peo-
ple work as one,. combining to
make the workload get done quick-
ly, efficiently, and accurately. A
wide assortment of companies
bring their books to the firm be-
cause it is well trusted and known
around the community.
Duting my job experience I have
observed and completed many
tasks. Some of the projects I have
completed include keeping payroll
records up to date, making up
worksheets for the payroll, calcu-
lating tax deductions, and entering
different figures for clients into the
computer to start a new accounting
period.
So far this year my job has been
an excellent place for me to work.
I still hope to attend University to
study accounting. I appreciate this
program and what it has dope. for
me. I am glad I'was given the op-
portunity to work at my placement.
Make sure you enjoy what you do!
You might be 'doing it for the rest
of your life. I certainly do, and am
going to try to accomplish my goal
of becoming a CMA. I hope my
fellow Co-op students 'try to do'the
same.
Jackie Smith...wps
"Can you push my swing?",
"Look at me!", "Jackie push me".
These are some of the things I hear
while working.
My name is Jackie Smith. I am
a student at F.E. Madill in grade
12, and am currently enrolled "in
Co-op. My placement is at the
Wingham Public School helping
supervise the kindergartens and my
supervisor is Mrs. Schedler, the
kindergarten teacher.
While helping supervise the
children, many, of the tasks I pre-
form include helping the children
by tying shoes, zipping up coats,
finding something for someone etc.
I also read stories and keep the
children interested in something .
productive or divert their attention -
to something else if too many chil- -
dren want to do the same thing.
Since I have been in my Co-op
placement I have made 21 new
friends. I have come a long way
since my. first day, when I stood
hack observing the interaction be-
tween the teacher and the children
and amongst,themselves.
I' have gotten to know each child
and appreciate the variety of indi-
vidualism in each and every one of
them. I always look forward to
those two and a half hours because
there is always someone giving me
a big smile full of happiness, a hug
or a variety of different welcomes
such as "Hi buddy", or a shy "Hi".
I have enjoyed every day of my
placement. • The kids bright sunny
attitudes and enthusiasm to learn
are refreshing '

"X-ray call switchboard please,
x-ray call switchboard." This mes-
sage rings through the halls of The
Wingham and District Hospital,
and the voice giving this message
is mine.
My name is Jackie McBurney. I
am the daughter of Brian and Bren-
da McBurney and am a grade
twelve student at F.E. Madill Sec-
ondary School in Wingham. I am
currently involved in the Co-op
program at this school and my
placement is in the Finance Depart-
ment at The Wingham and District
Hospital. My supervisors are Mr.
Gord Baxter and Mr. Jeff Taylor.
When Hirst started at the hospi-
tal I spent most of my time observ-
ing the other •ladies who work in
the office, especially those who ran
the switchboard. By the end of my
first session I was answering the
phone and beginning to know the
extensions of the different depart-
ments and people in the hospital.
During my first session I also
learned how to check the patient
room numbers by using the card
e, and how to remove their card
m their file when they are dis-
arged from the hospital. fo
Since my first session 1 have
arned how to make hospital w
cards, how to use the fax machine,
and how to sort and stamp the out-
going mail. I am currently begin-
ning some accounting which in-
volves working with the budget for
the different departments in the
hospital and some work with the
general ledger. I have found all of
the men and women to be very
friendly and always willing to give
a helping hand or answer any ques-
tions I may have.
The hospital also organized an
orientation program for all of their
Co-op students and new employ-
ees. I found this to be very helpful
especially when directing people to
the various areas in the hospital.
I plan to graduate from .,high-
school and attend college in an Ex-
ecutive Office Administration pro-
gram. I feel that the office in the
hospital is the ty that I would
someday like to work in, although
it may be at a larger scale for ex-
ample a city hospital or another
major company.
I would like to thank my super-
visors Mr. Baxter and Mr. Taylor
and the entire staff at the hospital
r all the help they have given me
and for making me feel so very
elcome.
Jayme Kingsbury...wPs
Why I went back to public
school. It seems like a weird state-
ment for a Grade 12 student to be
writing about but I believe going
back to public school was one of
the best decisions I have ever
made.
As you might have guessed I
have not returned as a public
schools student. My name is
Jayme" Kingsbury and I am a Co-
op student at F.E. Madill working,
with a Grade 3 class at Wingham
Public School.
i must admit at first I was quite
nervous. But all of the butterflies
disappeared when I opened the
door to the classroom and found 30
smiling faces full of encourage-
ment. My supervisor Miss. Zavitz
introduced me to the class and ever
since then I have been helping with
the various classroom duties. i am
kept very busy with the classroom
duties ranging from photocopying
and marking to supervising' and
reading stories.
T e. ildren in the class are
gr . Recently I had the opportu-
ity to teach a writing lesson.
They were all very helpful, and
kept me on my toes. The most dif-
ficult part of my placement is re-
membering all of their names.
Every day as I get to know each
student better I am learning . to
match personality traits with each
name.
As an added bonus, i am able to
work with a deaf by that is in the
class. This has allowed me to re-
fresh the. sign language skills I al-
ready had and also to learn new
ones. Miss. Campbell is the sign .
language translator for the little
boy and is always encouraging me
to try my best.
1 find this hands on experience
in the tirade 3 classroom has
helped me realize that I want to
work with children when I enter
the career field. This is all thanks
to Miss. Zavitz my supervisor, and
my Co-op education experience.
Shannon Phillips...Bank of Montreal
Money has always been the ba-
sis of our economy, but there are
other things involved, like GIC's,.

computers and i've done some
clerical work like answering
