The Wingham Lions Club Mid-
gets pushed their playoff series
against Seaforth to four games, but
couldn't push it any further. A 7-1
loss in Seaforth Sunday evening
effectively ended the local's run in
the OMHA playdowns, losing, the
series three games to one.
The Lions Club Midgets racked
up a 4-0 first period lead last Tucs-
day at the Lockridge Memorial
Arena, and held on for a 5-3 win.
The locals stumbled briefly to
open the game, with goalie Craig
Baynton being called upon to
make his first save on a break
away.
Defenceman Aaron Coultes
made it 1-0 Wingham on one of
his low, hard shots from the point
about five minutes into the open-
ing period. Kevin Love drew the
assist. Five minutes later another
defenceman, Joel Pegg, walked in
off the point to wrist one over the
Seaforth goalies glove for 2-0
Wingham lead. Love and Arley
Pautler earned assists. Then it was
Corey Moran's tum has he shoved
the puck across the,
goalline in the
middle of a scramble set by by
Pautler and Travis Baier. Coultes
got his second of the game why
he .went almost the length of tie
ice, and with a Seaforth player all
over him, picked the lower corner
to make it 4-0 for the locals.
Scaforth got one back in the last
minute of period to end the ope-
nining period with Wingham in,
front 4-1.
The momentum shifted in the
second, with .Seaforth picking up
the play and Wingham picking up
the penalties. The visitors made it
4-2 on a power play, five minutes
into the second period. Josh John-
ston got that one back when he
split the defence and beat the Sea -
•forth goalie high to the glove side.
'Love and Coultes received assists.
Seaforth made it a two -goal
game again, scoring with 16 sec-
onds left in the, period, and the
second ended 5-3 for Wingham.
Thethird period was scoreless,
but far from dull. Fuelled by a
noisy contingent of Seaforth,
things got 'very spirited. Wingham
drew a•penalty with less than two
minutes remaining. Seaforth putl-
led their netminder in the final
minute, but the locals held on with
some strong defence, goaltending
and back -checking to lock up the
win.
Moran opened 'the scoring .S un -
day as Beier redirected a Coultes
shot from the point and Moran
slipped it in just inside the goal -
post.
Seaforth was given lots of room
around the Wingham and as a re-
sult evened the .score before the
end of the period and added four
unanswered second period and
two more in the third to end the
scoring.
Even though the playoff season
is over for the Lions Club Mid-
gets, coach Bob Pegg expects to
put together some exhibition
games, and the team is scheduled
to play in a toumament in Harris -
ton next month to close out the
