Ironmen at risk Bulls advance to Hanover
of being put out
By CAMERON J. WOOD
The Advance -Times
With the first two games in the
best of five semi-finals going to
Mount Forest, the Wingham Junior
C Ironmen are at risk of being put
out altogether.
The series began last Friday in
Mount Forest as the Patriots re-
turned to he ice for the first time in
over two weeks. The lack of activi-
ty showed throughout the first peri-
od and a half as the Ironmen were
able to dominate physically and
pressure Patriot goalie Tom Clark.
Clark struggled to keep the. puck
within arm's length, coughing up
rebound after rebound, but the Iron -
men couldn't crowd the net enough
to get a stick on the loose puck.
However, by game's end, the Patri-
ot doubled up the Ironmen 6-3 to
take a one game lead.
Fiesty Patriot Jason Paige
popped the first goal of the game at
3:56 Qi' the first.
The Patriots also opened the
scoring in the second period, with
Jeff Rahn finding the net behind Ir-
onmen Jason Reid at 19:32. Jona-
than Lane responded for Wingham
on the Tower play at 17:38 from
Kyle Wheeler and Corey Morgan.
Morgan then tied the game at 2
with a lovely on -ice slapshot from
the point. Clark was screened on
the shot and Morgan found the
short side corner with ease.
'From there, things turned ugly,
with the Patriots constantly running
Reid. At one point in the second,
Reid bad covered the puck and was
soon after buried under two Patriot
forwards before the whistle was
blown. Midway through the third
period, Paige jumped on Reid after
the play had been stopped and the
two wrestled until the linesmen
could separate the pair. Each were
assessed 'minor penalties for rough-
ing after the whistle.
Mount Forest regained the lead
at 10:11, with, Greg Eurig finding
the net, followed nine sedonds later
by Ryan Montgomery on a defen-
sive giveaway by the Ironmen.
Kyle Wheeler finished the Wing -
ham scoring at 2:49 with a beauti-
ful walk -out, top corner, shot to
IRONMEN
beat Clark. Morgan picked up his
third point of the night with an as-
sist to lead the Ironmen in Game 1.
Rahn scored his second at 8:07
of the third on the power play, and
Paul Galbraith finished the scoring
at 3:24.
On Sunday, the teams returned to
Wingham for Game 2, and a better
offensive showing by the Ironmen.
However, they were still on the
short end, 6-5 and one game away
from the golf course.
Shannon Kerr got the game roll-
ing with a goal at 12:54 of the first
from Morgan and Justin Murray.
Rob Kirk tied the game for the Pa-
triots on the power play at 7:43 put-
ting the puck past Ironmen goalie
Adam Skillen.
Brett Sangster replied at 7:15 for
the Ironmen to .regain the home
team lead, from Wheeler. Kirk
once again replied at 5:26 to tie at 2
after one period of play.
Mount Forest managed a short
handed goal from Rick Lytle for
the only scoring of the second.
Wheeler tied the game again at
12:11 of the third from Murray and
Sangster. The Ironmen regained the
lead at 7:34 with a goal from Mike
Bromley. Assists went to Chris Fis-
cher and Troy Fischer.
Mount Forest rallied with a pow-
er play goal front Todd Davis at
6:14 and another power play goal
from Lytle at 4:54 to edge past
Wingham 5-4 with time ticking
down, Jason MacDougall added
some insurance with a goal at 0:36.
Murray replied with Wingham's
fifth goal of the game, from Kerr
and Sangster with just 11 seconds
left on the clock..
Game 3 went last night in -Mount
Forest.
