Wingham
team plays
tournament
The Wingham Pre -Tyke team,
consisting of 3 to 6 year olds
played in the Wallace Fun Days
tournament in Kurtzville on the
weekend.
This is strictly a fun tournament
with no scores posted and each
team guaranteed three games.
The Wingham team played
Drayton at 9 a.m. on Saturday,
Listowel at 11:15 a.m. and How -
ick at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
Although no scores were kept
(except the coaches), the Wing -
ham players represented them-
selves very well.
Goal scorers over the course of
the three games were Corey Mac-
Donald, Greg Tiffin, Travis Gallo-
way, Spencer Shaw, Ryan MacK-
ay, and Alex Hoggarth. The other
team members participating in the
tourney *ere Brandon Simmons,
Niall Jones, Tami Freiburger,
Tommy Deans, Jordon Errington,
Greg Mundy, Cody Foxton, Tyler
Stewart, and Kyle Ritchie.

Bulls secure third, seek second
Brussels Bulls scored a pair of
victories on the weekend to clinch
third place in the seven -team
Western Junior 'C' Hockey
League.
The Bulls still have a chance to
claim second place, but have to
win their two remaining games,
and hope that Hanover loses one
of their two remaining games.
Ryan Fisk turned aside 19 shots
Sunday afternoon as the Bulls
blanked league -leading Mount
Forest Patriots 3-0. It was Fisk's
first shut out of the season.
The Bulls scored one goal in
each period. Peter Ryter tallied the
first on the power play, Peter Mul-
der scored the second, and Greg
McNevan added the final goal.
Tom Clark was in goal for
Mount Forest.
In Kincardine on Friday, the
Bulls took a 2-0 first period as
they went on to claim a 6-4 deci-
sion over the first-year Bulldogs.
Ryan Sanders posted the victory
in the Brussels net.
Sheldon Mustard scored a pair
of goals to lead the Bulls offen-
sively. Single markers were added
by Brian Zabel, Josh Alexander,
Darrin Alviano, and Molder.
John Savoski scored two for the
Bulldogs, who trailed 3-2 after
two periods. Single markers were
contributed by Geoff Gunson and
Jeremy Farrow.
The Bulls conclude the regular .
season this weekend with a game
in Wingham Friday evening and
then take on Walkerton Black -
hawks Sunday afternoon.

Optimists set personal bests
Four athletes from the Wing -
ham .Optimist Track and Field
Club travelled to Toronto on the
weekend to compete in the Onta-
rio championships in track and
field combined events. They came
home with three medals and sever-
al personal bests.
Sjaan Gerth took the bantam
boys title. He ran a personal best
time of 10.60 seconds in the 60 -
metre hurdles, had a personal best
mark of 6.17 metres in the shot put
and cleared the bar in the high
jump at 1.44 metres. His point to-
tal was 1,037 points.
Janet Lisle took the gold medal
in the bantam girls divisions, with
Audrac Dickson taking the silver
and )acyuelyn Elston placing
fourth. .
Lisle had a personal best time in
the 60 -metre hurdles at 10.71 sec-
onds, a personal best in the high
jump at 1.40 metres, and threw the
shot put 8.07 metres, for a total of
1,501 points.
Dickson ran the 60 -metre hur-
dles m a personal best time of
10.88 seconds, set a personal best
mark of 1.37 metres in the high
jump. and threw tM shot put 5.39
metres.
Elston ran the hurdles in a per-
sonal best time of 12.33 seconds,
high jumped 1.22 metres, and
tossed the shot put 7.63 metres.
The next indoor meet for mites,
tykes, atoms and bantams will be
Feb. 17 in Toronto. Indoor practic-
es continue at F.E. Madill Secon-
dary School, every Monday and
Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
