out tie with Blyth Hunt"
The Wingham Lions Club Mid-
gets had to reach down a long way
to pull out a 7-7 tie with Blyth in
the Thresher Town last Monday.
This one had a little bit of
everything — a shaky and discou-
raging opening frame, a solid sec-
ond period, and a rousing come-
back in the third.
Wingham was led by two -goal
performances from Jeff King and
Josh Johnston, with Kevin Love,
Travis Baier,; and Corey Moran all
having multi -point games to add
to the offence.
The shaky start came just past
the first minute of the game, when
Blyth racked up their first goal. h
started out as a pass to the point by
a Wingham player deep in the
Blyth end, but ended up going the
length of the ice and crossing the
Wingham goalline. Blyth connect-
ed for three more before King fi-
nally put Wingham on the board.
King's goal was one of his 'river-
boat • gambler' moves in off the
point, where he finished off a play
around the Blyth net, started by
Baier and Love.
Joel Pegg's point shot about five
minutes into the second found the
twine behind the Blyth goalie,
making it 4-2 for Blyth. Moran's
short handed solo effort pulled
Wingham to within one later in the
second. But Blyth struck for two
more of their own before the peri-
od ended to take. a 6-3 advantage
into the third period.
Johnston connected for his first
of two. on the night on a power

play, early in the third to pull
Wingham within two. Love,,got
the assisL
King's second of the game, as-
sisted by Moran and Baier, came
less than a minute later. Blyth re-
stored their two -goal advantage a.,
minute later.
But a power play chance,
cashed in by Baier, assisted by
King and Moran, again made it a
one -goal game. It stayed that way
into the final two minmutes when
King sent Johnston in on a two -
on -one. Johnston fired a hard one
from the top of the faceoff circle.
The Blyth netminder got a piece of
it with his trapper, but not enough,
and the shot rocketed into the top
of the net for the tying goal.
The tie almost made up for the
Lions Midgets earlier 6-3 loss to
Blyth in a game played in Wing -
ham in early December.
The Midgets open , their first
round of playoffs in Durham on
Thursday. Game two in'tl series
is expected to be play e t at the
Lockridge Memorial k ena on
Tuesday.
