The Ruby Whits rink from
M.eaford.. and the Pat Sam four-
some from Wiarton will represent
Zone 11 at the Ontario Ladies
Curling Association Diamond sen-
ior playdowns next week in Elora.
The White rink of.,,fad Helen
Weaver, second. Norma Young,
third Marie Hare and skip White
won the 'A' final of the zone play -
downs held last Tuesday at the
Teeswater Curling Club. The Mca-
ford rink downed the Wiarton rink
6-4.
The Sam foursome of lead
Joyce Brown, second Florence Pa-
ton, third Joyce Weir, and skip
Sam won the 'B' final by getting
past the Jean Cobean foursome
from Port Elgin, 104 in nine ends.
The Wiarton rink defeated the
Port Elgin foursome 10-5 in the
first draw of the zone playdowns.
The regional playdowns will be
held Jan. 16 to 19 at Elora.
Intermediates post
first season victo
The Wingham Intermediate
girls hockey team posted its first
win of the season on Dec. 29.
Paced by thc two -goal, one -
assist effort of Heidi Meier, the In-
termediates downed St. Thomas 6-
4 in the Stratford Minor Girls
Hockey Tournament, played in
Monkton.
The win qualified thc Wingham
team for the consolation final. De-
spite losing 6-0 to an older and
more experienced Stephen Town-
ship tcam, the local girls played
hard for the entire game.
Courtney Zinn also scored for
Wingham with Lindsay DeVos,
Bethany Lindsay and Sherri Rob-
inson chipping in with their first
goals of the year. Tabitha Lindsay
and Lauren Pander picked up two
assists each with single helpers be-
ing received by Julie Woodley and
,Tcrri-Lynne Schcil. •
Charity Duckworth scored a
pair of goals for St. Thomas with
single markers added ..by Amy
Dolisman, and Lori Shoupe. •
Cindy Freiburgcr was in goal
for the Wingham Intermediates..
Katie Pettigrew was the winner
of a draw for a hockey stick.
IDA Atoms post
two road victories
Wingham IDA Atom Bs posted
two road victories in recent
WOAA Local League play.
Shawn Walker had two goals
and a pair of assists last Tuesday
as Wingham shut out Teeswatcr 7-
0 in a game played at the Tecswa-
tet-Culross Community Centre. .
John Haines tallied a pair of
goals with Jeff Lindsay and Derck
Marks getting one goal and one
assist each. Shawn Vaughn con-
tributed one goal to the win. Sin-
gle assists were received by Kyle
Hodgins, Barry Skinn, Mark Chip -
pa, and Brett Coulthard.'
Walker scored two goals and
earned an assist on Dec. 28, as the
Atom Bs downed SL Marys 5-1.
Marks had one goal and two as-
sists with Ryan Spaling chipping
in with a goal and an assist.Lind-
sayhad one goal.
David Baldwin was the lone
goal getter for St. Marys.

This Ministry of Culture, Tourism
& Recreation information line can
answer your basic questions and
provide you with guides to places,
lodgings and events to help narrow
your options.
Then call Ontario's Snow-
mobiling Hot Line, I -800 -263 -
SLED (toll free) for snowmobiling
information and brochures on your
areas of interest. It helps if you
have one or two specific destina-
tions and a holiday timetable al-
ready in mind. Don't overlook
your home region in this search.
After all. some of the hest trails
and tours might be in your own
backyard. Be sure to ask for a
"1995 TOP Trail Map as a tour
planner.
Finalize your destination by call-
ing the appropriate regional tour-
ism office at the phone number list-
ed on their brochure to verify
details and ask for more in-
formation. Then call the Ontario '
Federation of Snowmobile Chlbs
(OFSC) at 705/739-7669 and ask
for the names and phone numbers
of the local snowmobile clubs.
Don't he afraid to call the club con-
tact to ask area specific questions,
snow and trail conditions, staging
areas, trail connections and for lo-
cal maps.
Based on your research, de-, '
cisions and flexibility, either make
advance reservations or simply
take a list of probable lodgings and
restaurants with you to play it by
ear as you snowmobile. But•, I'd
advise calling ahead each morning
to make reservations for that night
as many locations are becoming
too busy 'for ride -in trade. Ask at
each overnight stop about the next.

went up against the St. Marys
Flames on Dec. 27 and scored a 7-
4 victory.
Belgrave trailed 2-1 after the
first period but were ahead 6-3 go-
ing into the final period.
Justin Campbell had, two goals
and a pair of assists for Belgrave
with Cook and Nathan Spivey
each getting two goals and one as-
sist. McCracken added a single
marker with Paul Walker and
Bromley recieivng one assist
apiece.
The next game for the Belgrave,
Atoms was against St. Marys Jets,
with the Jets skating to a 6-3 victo-
ry.
Cook had two goals for Bel-
grave with Justin Campbell getting
a goal and two assists. Devin -
Moffatt received one assist.
Travis Campbell was the Bel -
grave goaltender.
Beigravc then went up against
the SL Marys 'Flames again on
Dec. 30, and scored a 4.1 deci-
sion. Belgrave scored thcir goals
in the sccond period with the
Flames getting one back in the
third .period

want the hassle of trying to do it
yourself. Perhaps your plans in-
clude family. Or what if you're a
novice wanting to try your first
snowmobiling holiday? There are
several good options.
Resorts Ontario. (I -800-363-
7227, toll free) has a dandy bro-
chure listing resorts specializing in
snowmobiling holidays. In addi-
tion to full service facilities and
amenities, these properties can of-
ten arrange rental sheds and gear,
guides and tours. By riding out of
one central location each day; you
have access to new trails and all the
comforts of home too.
Alternately, "package" tours are
available whereby any number of
establishments on a trail system get
together to market themselves as a
group.. Usually based on a circle
tour (starting and ending in the
same place), two with brochures
are: 'Round Algonquin Park
(RAP), pontact 613/756-2324 or
Vall6y SnowTour, contact 613/756-
2646.
Depending on your time, each
tour can last anywhere from three
to seven days. You're on your own
during the day's ride, but with res-
ervations, are expected each night
at participating lodgings en route.
For the more adventurous, there's a
unique, three day experience called
"Getting Back" (705/569-2933)
that 'combines snowmobiling, wild-
erness and survival training and
first class accommodation..
But sometimes, you want to be
waited on hand and foot. If so,
then you should call one of On=
tario's many first-rate snowmobile
tour companies.. Each offers three
to eight day all-inclusive guided
'tours, complete with.meals, lodg-
ings and luggage -carrying support
