Co-op student learns about
drafting Royal Royal Homes
By Jason Kraemer
Hello, my name is Jason Kraemer
and I am presently enrolled in
Grade 12 at the F. E. Madill Sec-
ondary School in Wingham. Since
the new school year started, I have
been involved in the cooperative
education program. This program
allows me to- benefit greatly from
on-the-job training.
I take regular school classes in
the morning and every second day
II am at my workplace, which is
Royal Homes Ltd. I work for three
hours every co-op in the draft-
ing
day in the department. I requested my
placement be at Royal Homes
because I am interested in architec-
tural drafting and design. I hope to
• take the architectural technology
course as my post -secondary edu-
cation.
My applying` for co-op at Royal
Homes didn't just get me into the
program, but it also got me an
excellent part-time job. I actually
got the job before I started the co-op
program, which really made it
worthwhile to apply for the pro-
gram.
When I firrstt start y job, I was
using the 'core'

board to make drawings for cus-
tomers. Since then I hive advanced
with the much -appreciated help of
my co-workers and now am able to
. operate the CADD system.
Presently I am_ on the CADD
(Computer -Aided Drafting and
Design) full-time and have my own
work station. I am required to make
presentation drawings for cus-
tomers and also have a complete set
of working drawings from which
the homes are built.
I really enjoy my placement at
Royal Homes as it has given me the
opportunity to find out if I really
want to pursue a career in architec-
tural drafting or not. I never really
expected to get as much out of the
coop program as I have so far. It's
not just the learning, but the office
atmosphere and the many new
friends I have gained that make it
worthwhile.
If I were asked to give my opin-
ion of the co-op program, I would
say that it is an excellent way to
learn and an excellent way to
understand what you would like to
do with your life. It might be one of
the best opportunitie ypy wil
'ib1 rnaftfnkg have during your lifetrrne.
