Legion zone tour
The Wingham Legion PeeWees
defeated Kincarcline 2-1 and then
Goderich 4-2 be:fore bowing to
Seaforth 9-3 in tit!, single-knockou
Legion zOne tournament held in
Lucknow last Saturday.
Seaforth now advances to play
other zone winners Jan. 6 in
Goderich.
Wingham had not played Kincar-
dine since their first exhibition
game of the season when they tied
1-1. These two evenly -matched
teams were in a similar tie with
• only two minutes remaining in the
• game when Peter Shaw slipped the
puck between the goalie's legs to
give Wingham the lead. Jeremy
Creeden picked up the assist.
A high -sticking penalty to Wing -
ham right after the goal left them
short-handed for the remainder of
o the game, but the penalty -killing
unit did the job to preserve the win.
Ryan Leibold had opened the
scoring in the first period after line -
mates Shawn Gedcke and Brett
Sangster had set him up.
Kincardine tied the game
halfway through the second and it
remained that way until Shaw's
winner in the third.
Mike Golley played a steady
game between the pipes for Wing -
ham although his counterpart at the
other end of the rink had more
pucks to turn aside.
Against Goderich, Wingham
scored twice late in the second peri-
od to take a 2-0 lead. Gedcke
slapped one home from a goal -
mouth scramble as Leibold and
Sangster collected the assists. Two
minutes later Creeden picked the
top corner on the short side.
However, Goderich responded
with two goals- of its own early in
the third to tie the match.
Sangster combined with Gedcke
and Leibold to regain the lead for
Wingham and then with only 40
seconds remaining, Sangster slid
the puck into the open net to sew
up the vict
and Shaw

t had to lace up ark and face the
well-oiled Seaforth squad which
had receive a bye to the final after
defeating Clinton 6-1.
Asin league play, Wingbani was
unable to shut down Seaforth's two
well-balanced lines and absorbed a
9-3 beating. Mike Weber picked up
the hat trick for Seaforth while
Boyd and Mike Devereaux each
connected twice.
Seaforth built a 4-0 lead in the
first and made it 5-0 before Gedcke
put Wingham on the scoreboard
from Leibold and Sangster. Creeden
then connected on an unassisted
effort, but Seaforth replied with
three more to end the second.
Despite being tired and a long
way from getting back into the
game, Wingham never gave up and
skated stride -for -stride with
Seaforth in the third and ended up
trading single goals with the win-
ners. Creeden notched his second of
the game from Josh Johnston.
In league action last Thursday,
Wingham downed Goderich 5-3.
Wingham fell behind 2-0, but
bounced back with three to take the
lead going into the third.
Shaw rapped one in on a power
play, cashing in Sangster's pass and
then Creeden tied it from McPher-
son. Wingham went ahead on
another power -play goal as Sang-
ster converted Gedcke's set-up
pass. Goderich tied it up early in
the third and then with four min-
utes remaining, Leibold collected
the winner from Jason Evans and
Gedcke.
Sangster rapped home an insur-
ance marker with two minutes left
and {gingham killing a penalty.
Wingham will play at home on
Thursday against Mitchell and then
compete in the Kincardine Silver
Stick Tournament during the
Christmas break.
