Lieutenants, •• strict captain
granted honoraria increase
The yearly honoraria for the
eruagham Fire Department's lieu-
tenants and one district captain
have been incxeased for 1990.
The honoraria was discussed at
last Wednesday evening's meeting
of the Wingham Area Fire Board.
A proposal was put forward by
Fire Chief Harley Gaunt to increase
District Captain Bill Doig's yearly
honorarium to 51,000, the same as
Keis deVriesh Mr. Doig had been
receiving 5800 per year.
Chief Gaunt said he feels both
men are doing the same job and
should be compensated in the same
fashion.
1Fle also proposed to increase the
honorarium for the four lieutenants
— Jim Schefter, Ron Mann, Kevin
Hickey and Stuart Montgomery —
to $500 from $400.
The firefighters did not request
any increase in the hourly rate of
pay, said the chief. It will remain at
520 for the first hour and 515 per
hour for every subsequent hour
spent on firefighting duty
However, they did request an
increase in the standby rate for holi-
day weekends, to 575 per man, per
weekend, from the previous rate of
550.
The board agreed to the increases
in honoraria and standby rate_
Other department heads did not
ask for any increase in pay and will
receive in 1990: S4,000 for Deputy
Chief Lynn Hickey and Captain
Glen Reidt, 5650.
When asked if he had put togeth-
er a proposal for his own wages,
Chief Gaunt replied, no.
