Last weekend the Wingham
Legion PeeWees, led by Mike Gol-
ley in goat, played three strong
rebounded with three to take a 3-2
lead hi the third. Creeden tied the
game on an unassisted effort and
then Brown moved in from the
point and let go a blast that caught
the top comer to give Wingham a 4-
3 lead. Johnston picked up the
assist.
With only a minute and one-half
remainingMitchell tied the game.
In the -3 loss to Clinton, Wmg-
hatn had once again jumped into a
2-0 lead. Pegg's shot from the point
banked off the boards and then off
the goaltender into the net. John-
ston then converted a pass from
Creeden. McPherson also collected
an assist on the play.
However, Clinton then took over
the play and netted seven unan-
swered goals including three power
play markers to take a 7-2 lead.
Mark Olson rapped in Wing -
ham's final goal after Travis Beier
and Brown set 'flat up.
Wingham will play in Goderich
on Thursday night and then com-
pete in a Legion zone tournament
in Lucknow on Saturday.

In its first game, the Legion
squad cane up against a very
determined host Teeswater club
and the game remained scoreless
until late in the third frame when
Wingham's Brett Sangster slipped
around one defender and rifled the
puck into the top corner of.thenet.
Neil Mowbray and Ryan Leibold
picked up the assists. Winghain
then held off Teeswater for the final
two minutes to chaulk up the 1-0
Wingham got the offence in gear
in its second game, defeatingRip-
ley 9-1. Jeremy Creeden scored the
only goal of the first period. Danny
McPherson and Josh Johnston set
up the goaL
In the second period, Winghain
added three more as Johnston
tipped one in from McPherson and
Creeden, then Leibold netted two.
Sangster and Mowbray received
credit for the assists on the one
goal, while the other was an unas-
sisted effort.

The same line tallied the other three
goals in the game as well. Leibold
scored in -the first from Cedcke and
defenceman Jeremy Brown and -
then he notched the final marker
late in the thin from Sangster and
Joel Pegg.
Sangster registered his goal in the
second period with Lelbold collect-
ing

In league action last week, Wing-
hain tied Mitchel 4-4 and lost to
Clinton 7-3. Playing without three

In the battle for the gold:medal in
the shot put'event for the Midget -
girls, 15 -year-old Harkness and, her
arch rival, Bin_ky Sparboom of the
Lindsay Legion Club, were in a
class of their own.
Harkness led the field until the
last throw with an outstanding per-
sonal best of 1132 metres. Howev-
er,
oweyer, she had to settle for the silver,
only 16 centimetres short of the
gold.
Presently, Harkness is practising
hard and is looking forward to
defending her title as provincial
indoor champion.
