They traced their hands on to green construction paper, cut them out and then past- ed them in the shape of a Christmas tree. Miss Jesshope supplied them with packing materials that they made into decorations. A few people did projects on squirrels. Julie Moffat, Ashley Campbell and Cheryl Ann Norman did an excellent job on their research. The Grade 2s are finishing up their research projects. They are writing books on getting ready for winter The Grade 2-3 classes went to the Goderich museum last week to par- ticipate in their Christmas program — a Victorian Christmas experi- ence. They are making stained glass windows for their classroom. — Jane Darling JUNIORS Mr. Liddle's Grade 4 class is using a pet theme for spelling and they are finishing up a unit on the maps of Huron County. They are steiting an interesting unit on mak- ing crystals. Mr. Chaulles Grade 5-6 class has enjoyed corresponding with pen- pals in Pennsylvania. They are making advent calendars with their. reading buddies in Grade 1. /ft health, the class is starting to study nutrition. Mrs. DeBruyn's Grade 5-6 is doing fairy tales entitled "Then and Now". They axe finding quite a dif- ference when comparing the old fairy tales with those of today. They have finished three-dimensional art and are starting on Christmas art. —Shannon Phillips INTERMEDIATES The Grade 7s are busy working on prepositions in grammar and are finishing up their spelling activities. In geography, they are finding out certain things about certain cities. They are also busy working on sci- ence projects — they each have to " research a Canadian scientist. The Grade 8s are working very hard these days. In math, they are working on fractions, ratios and per cents. In French, they are studying France, Quebec and the City of Montreal" and in geography, they • are study contour lines. They are very busy with their fin- ger exercises and they are doing their best printing in their printing books. They also had lots of fun skating with their reading buddies. They have just finished their dinosaur unit and they are making dioramas. —Jonathan Gibbons Miss Sandiland's Grade 2-3 class has just finished writing get -well cards to Craig Shargold. He is the boy who is seven years old and has cancer. He wants to get into the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most get -well cards, and Miss Sandilands' class is help- ing his dream come true. The Grade 2s are working on "time" in math, while the Grade 3s are getting better at regrouping. Also, the students are looking forward to the December bake sale. Julian Griffith Mr Sakasov's Grade 3-4 class is beginning their first novel study entitled "Trapped in Ice". They started their study by looking at parts of a novel and finding out what makes a novel interesting. In math, they have been multi- plying two -digit numbers by one - digit numbers. —Erin Whiteley This week the Grade 5 class is doing book reports. They do a book cover or diorama. They are doing a project on water animals. They are happy to say no one failed their report cards and they hope to have a good second term. —Bryan DeBruyn Mrs. Schedler's class also is busy making cards for Craig Shergold, when they're not practising for the Christmas concert. In French, they labelled some classroom objects with cards obtaining the name and picture of what they were labelling. —Nicole Lipnicki On Friday, Mrs. King and her Grade 6 class have planned a trip to the Goderich Historical Museum. In Math, they are working on prob- lem -solving. In about one week, Mrs. King's Grade 6 class is starting their Christmas activities. Lately they have been doing some very creative Christmas Art. —Melissa Webber Mr. Bowyers' class just had a test in social studies about Europe. Most did very well. This week they are going to visit the feed mill in Belmore. They are working on designs for their door for Christmas Holidays. In gym, they are playing floor hockey. —Kendra Merkley Miss Leitch travels from school to school working with visually impaired students. At WPS, she has two blind students who are excited about Christmas. All the children she teaches are working on a Christmas unit. —Evan Poll Mr. Lisle's class is working very hard on ratios, and per cents. In art, they will soon be painting the class- room windows with beautiful Christmas pictures. A new unit has been started in geography and in history "The War of 1812" is being taken. Miss Gingrich INTERMEDIATE REPORT Edited by Patty Bennett On NovO, a touring theatre company presented the story of Pinocchio at our school, sponsored by the Howick Optimist Club. It was really enjoyable! We also twinned with Kindergarten B and made some "choir boys and girls". Lee Brunarski In Mr. Doubleday's class, both grades 7 and 8 are working on frac- tions in Math. We have a whole bunch of assignments to finish before Christmas. We have divided ourselves into groups to decorate the room for Christmas. We are collecting canned goods for our class hamper to be given to the Salvation Army for needy families in our area. Angela Howitt In Mr. Raynard's Grade 8 class this week week we are finishing our chapter checkups for math. We are starting the second term. In gym, we are working on vol- leyball skills and finger tip drills. Jenni Gibson JUNIOR REPORT Edited by Erin Taylor Last week Room 18 did their hol- iday presentations on multicultur- alism. They also wrote a new song in music that was called "On top of Room 18." They learned how to play a game called Word Factory, and another called Sticky Bear #2 on their computers. They just voted on their new book called "Not Quite Human". Lillian Raynard Chauncey Bolander Mr Hencher's Grade 6 class has just completed the 3rd edition of the newsletter. In the cross -Canada car rally, cars 4 and 3 are tied for 1st and car 1 is not far behind. Also the band sweatshirts have come in. They look great. Our annual Christ- mas concert will be held Dec. 20 at 8 p.m. On Dec. 6 we will visit the emergency department to learn about drugs as part of the V.I.P. pro- gram.
