cli saw action, this time in

impressive 10-0 win.
Tuesdays contest saw Madill
come out very sluggishly against
the new -look Redmen, a much
smaller, but much quicker team
that last year's. The Mustangs were
fortunate to be down by a single
goal „after one period and it was
probably the Redmen's undoing
that they didn't jump all over
Madill when thev had the chance.
For the retaining two periods, it
was very much a delve
with Madill finally eking out the
victory on a. last-minute goal by
Clans Stevenson. He combined on a
line with Justin Murray and Jaret
Henhoeffer to produce all of the
Mustang's offenoe, with Stevenson
picking up two goals and an assist,
Murray, a goal and an assist and
Henhoeffer, two assists.
The prettiest goal of the game
was Madill's first and came late in
the second period. Defenceman
Brent Kavanagh corralled the puck
at centre ice just es Stevenson
stepped out of the penalty box after
serving a two -minute penalty,
He raced into the Clinton zone

Jason Bloemberg and Dan Bow-

the number-oiie Mustang on this

The Wingham Shoppers' Drug
Mart Atoms participated in the
Howick Atom Tournament last
weekend and came up against Har-
riston in the first game. Harristori
came out on top with a 2-1 victory,
but it was exciting end-to-end
action.
Harriston opened the scoring at
13:45 of the first period, but Wing -
ham seemed to have the edge of
play. There was no scoring in the
second, but again, Wingham
seemed to be out -playing Harris -
ton, yet not getting any breaks.
In the third frame, Wingham
came out wanting a goal badly and
kept the puck in the opposition's
end, firing shot after shot, but came
up empty. At the 6:40 mark, Harris -
ton got an unassisted goal to go up
by two with Wingham applying all
sorts of pressure.
Finally, with only 38 seconds left
in the match, Wingham's Missy Bie-
man raced down the right wing
and fired a low, hard shot past Har-
riston's awesome goaltender.
With a few breaks, the team
would have come out of this one on
the winning end of the score.
On Sunday, the Shoppers' Atoms
continued tournament play, coming
up against Belgrave and Listowel
In the first period of the game
against Belgrave, Wingham got off
to a slow start with Belgrave scor-
ing in the opening minute. They
added two more goals in the first
with Wingham coming close on
several occasions.
In the second period, only one
goal was scored, again by Belgrave.
However, if Wingham could have
gotten some breaks, the score
would not have been 4-0.

The Wingham Atom Silver Stick
Tournament will be held Dec. 12,

The third period was scoreless
with everyone helping to make this
an exciting game right down to the
last second. Everyone played well,
but just could not put the puck in
the net.
About one hour later, after enjoy-
ing a feed of hotdogs and desserts,
the team again stepped on the ice,
this time to face a squad from Lis-
towel. Once more the opposition
opened the scoring in the first peri-
od and led 1-0 going into the sec-
ond. This game was full of action
and at the 10:03 mark, Listowel
added another goal. With just 28
seconds left in the period, Wing -
ham got a really nice goal from that
ail -over -the -ice man Jason Curtis.
This really made it interesting
starting the third period with Lis-
towel leading 2-1. The locals put on
a great deal of pressure, but could
not finish off the plays with a goal
Listowel added two mere to make
the final score 4-1. With lots of
chances from everyone and great
goaltending from Mike King, the
team made this an exciting week-
end of hockey. Hats off to the How -
ick people, who put on and ran an
excellent tournament.
Wingham travels to Beltway for a
league game Thursday night and
hopefully the big guns will come
out firing some goals.
