Council adopts formal grid
for its management staff
Wingham Town Council has
adopted a formal wage grid for its
management staff.
The grid was adopted at the
October meeting of town council
and is subject to change on Jan. 1.
Some members asked if council
should not wait until the first of the
year when the grid could be adjust-
ed. However, as it was explained by
Councillor Ward Robertson, with
the town hiring a new parks and
recreation director this fall, the grid
should be in place.
New town employees must serve
a six-month probation period, then
the grid follows five performance
levels up to the maximum salary
for the position.
The grid sets out 1989 rates roe
the municipal management staff in
Wingham as follows (from the
starting probation salary to maxi-
mum salary for the position):
—clerk -treasurer, $31,037 to
$41,382;
—deputy clerk -treasurer, $24,688
to $32,918;
—public works foreman, $28,633
to $36,575;
—assistant works foreman,
$24,688 to $32,918;
—director of parks and recre-
ation, $27,6: to $35,918;
—facilities manager, $21,318 to
$27,170 and;
--day care supervisor, $24,688 to
$32,918.
Two 1:)blic meetings
in East Wawanosh
Four applications for re -zoning
have been accepted for public meet-
ings in East Wawanosh.
A zoning amendment from insti-
tutional to residential has been pro-
posed to create five residential lots
at Lot 42, Con. 14, owned by the
Wingham Pentecostal Church. The
property is already clesigna!tedor
residential on 't40 op,grOlip's
secondary plan which governs land
use, noted County Planner Cindy
Fisher at Tuesday's township coun-
cil meeting.
A small portion of Lot 30, Con.
11, currently zoned for agriculture
and natural environment, is up for
rezoning to allow the construction
of a single family residence.
These two applications will be
heard Nov. 7 in the East Wawanosh
municipal building.
An application by Snell Develop-
ments Ltd. for rezoning on Part Lot
42, Con. 9 is also on the public
meeting agenda. The proposal calls
for 27 residential lots. Currently
zoned for restricted agricultural
use, the re -zoning to residential
would extend the boundaries of the
village of Belgrave. The application
will be heard Nov. 23.
An application by Huron County
to change the zoning of Lot 30, Con.
4 from agricultural use to ER -1 for
the purpose of developing a small
gravel pit will also go to the public

AIDS nformation night
000 19 at Huronview
October 16 to 22 b AIDS Aware-
ness Week in Ontario. Residents of
Huron County will have an oppor-
tunity to learn the latest status of
this disease at a community infor-
mation night Thursday, Oct. 19, at 8
p.m. at the Huron Auditorium,
Clinton.
The night, entitled "AIDS: A
Community Concern", will feature
videotapes, speakers, a book dis-
play and poster contest.
Youth in Huron County are
encouraged to enter the poster con-
test by designing a poster to
increase AIDS awareness. Entries
may be submitted to the Huron
County Health Unit office or
Women Today. Winning posters
will be forwarded to Toronto for
use on World AIDS Day, Dec. 1.
It is estimated that it AIDS con-
tinues to spread at the current rate,
everyone will eventually know of
someone who is affected by this
disease. Our only defence against
AIDS remains education as there is
still no vaccine or cure.
The community information
night is co-sponsored by the Huron
County Health Unit and Women
Today.
