Home economist
at Junior WI
The September meeting of the
Howick Junior Women's Institute
got off to a delicious start with the
guest for the evening being Deb
Campbell, a home economist from
Centralia College, who had some
excellent advice on "Rush Hour
Microwave Cooking"; valuable
information for busy families today.
Her demonstration included such
delectable dishes as Pizza Chicken,
Cheezy Broccoli, Parmesan Nibble
Squares and Apple Spice Cake. All
present had a chance to sample the
demonstrations.
Roll call for the meeting was
"Na#ne an unusiiaj spice and how
to use it."
There were many suggestions,
although many of them prompted a
discussion on the difference
between herbs and spices.
Also on the agenda that evening
was Tracy Hargrave, the Howick
J.W.I. representative to the Howick-
Turnberry Fall Fair Queen competi-
tion. Tracy gave an excellent speech
on the history of the fair. J.W.I.
members Henrietta Claus and
Helen Smith presented Tracy with a
gift and wished her well in the
competition.
In other committee reports, there
were updates on the fashion show
and tea, the fall fair display, the
babysitting course currently in ses-
sion and the Hallowe'en Family
Dance to be held Oct. 27. There was
mention made also of the Provincial
J.W.I.O. conference to be held at
Owen Sound on Oct. 13, 14 and 15.
Approximately 14 members from
Howick have expressed interest in
attending.
