In the final game, the Wroxeter
pitchers controlled the game and its
hitters came otit on top of the Lon-
desborough pitching by a score of
10-4 to take the series three games
to hone.
Wroxeter pitching was superb
this season. Dennis Wintemute
pitched 45 and two-thirds innings,
with 66 strikeouts, 31 walks an ERA
of 2.19. Wroxeter's Jason Kieffer,
however, was the dominate pitcher
of the Tri -County PeeWee League.
He recorded 59 and two-thirds
innings pitched, striking out 112
batters, walking 49 and an ERA of
1.29.

ting average of .704. Ryan Gallaher
turned in an excellent performance
of nine home runs, one triple, three
doubles for a team -leading RBI
total of 36 and a .538 batting aver-
age.
Over the 18 -game, Tri -County
season, including playoffs, the team
lost but one game. During this
same period, they scored 255 runs
and gave up only 74.
The coaching staff extends a
hearty thank -you to all the families
which supported the boys with
their time, money, energy and
words of encouragement. A word
of appreciation also is extended to
all the umpires who worked the
games.
We give our nod of approval for
the sportsmanlike manner in which
all teams in our Tri -County League
conducted themselves. Finally,
thanks are extended to the Wrox-
eter Parks and Recreation Board for
a ball field that was well-prepared
for all teams to play the game the
best they know how.

the loss despite giving up only six
hits, walking eight and striking out
five. •

HORSESHOES

Harold Carter and Peter deGroot
took top spot at the Wingham
Sportsmen's Club horseshoe play
last Thursday evening with six
wins and a plus of 15.
Jack Higgins and Murray Mac-
Farlane were second at five wins
and a plus of 30, While Grant Wall
and George Marklevitz were third,
four wins and a plus of 64.
Glen Casemore and Don Saun-
ders were fourth at four wins and a
plus of 57. Ivan Rivett and Kevin
Scott were fifth with three wins and
a plus of 96. Earl Russell filled in
for Mr. Scotto who left after one
game.
Sixth place went to Leon Russell
and Glen Sellers, three wins and a
plus of 88. Elmer MacFarlan and
Gerry Freiburger were seventh,
three wins and a plus of 39 and 13ob
Gavrel sk and Bill Tiffin rounded
out the scoring in eighth place, no
wins and a plus of 139.
Madill hosts eight
cross-country teams
The weather cooperated and' the
Grade 12 marshals did a superb job
under sunny skies and warm tem-
peratures last Tuesday when the F.
E. Madill Secondary School played
host to eight teams for theopening
meet of the high school cross-coun-
try season.
The new tioutes proved challeng-
ing. Runners began at the F. E.
Madill upper field and made their
way through fields to the bush at
Riverside lark and then along the
parkland, returning the way they
had gone.
The Madill cross-country teams
had some excellent results. The best
individual placings came from
Sandy Anderson, who ran the
8,000 -metre in Senior boys, placing

second overall and Derrick Evers,
who ran a strong 6,400, in Junior
boys to win third place.
As well, the Midget girls' team of
Michelle Coulter, Natasha
Muscheid, Sherry Dekker, Laura
Cardy and Beth Gugg placed sec-
ond.
In the Junior boys, Evers, Jason
Maier, Ken Lapp, Don Pickard,
Sean Whiteley, Mike VanHoff and
Kevin Dekker ran to a second -place
team finish.
In Senior boys, Anderson, Rod
Adams, Adam Armstrong, Ben
Barnes, Brent Gillespie and Steve
Rantoul also earned a second -place
finish.
The next meet is today, Tuesday,
at the Benmiller Conservation Area.
