Huron East District WI
plans rally for October'
FORDWICFJ—Huron East W.I.
held the fall executive meeting in
the Brussels Library. Sept. 11. The
president, Mrs. James McMahon
took charge of the meeting.
Plans were finalized for the coun-
ty rally to be held at the Ethel Com-
munity Centre, on Oct. 2, 9.30 a.m.
Members were reminded to keep

ment concerning keeping their local

Delegates were chosen for the
Guelph area convention to be' held
at .Maryhill Oct. 20 and 27. Mrs.

vows are exchanged
Mary Beth O'Hagan of Winghasa
and David Johnston of RR 1,
Gowanstown, were joined in mar-
riage on Aug. 12 at Wingham Unit-
ed Church, Rev. J. Rea Grant offici-
ating. The bride is a daughter of
Reg and Susan O'Hagan of Wing -
ham and the groom is the son of
Robert and Marlene Johnston, RR 1,
Gowanstown,
Hap Swatridge of Wingham was
organist and soloist was Lavonne
Ballagh, also of Wingham,
satin with crew neckline. The train
was covered in sprays of pearls, and
she wore a hat with a fingertip veil
She carried a bouquet of yellow
and white orchids and green ivy,
with sprigs of iridescent ribbon and
pearl sprays.
The maid of honor was Angela
Benrtinger of Whitechurch and
bridesmaids were two friends of
the bride, Sheila Marklevitz of RR
2, Wingham and Cheryl Donkers-
goed of Ethel and Diane Johnston
of RR 1, Gowanstown, sister of the
groom. They wore cocktail -length
gowns of mauve satin, featuring
cobra backs and Brew necl Lippe.
They carried bouquets of purple
orchids.
Train bearers were Sart* and
Laura O'Hagan of Wingham, t%vin
sisters of the bride. they *Ore
dresses similar to those' of the
bridesmaids.
Flower girl, Tricia Koebel of
Waterloo, a godchild of the .gtpom,
wore a white lace dress with: bows
of colored, mauve ribbon. She car-
ried a white wicker basket. Ring-
bearer, Andrew Koebel of Waterloo_
carried a heart -shaped satin pillow.
The best man was Brad Pyke, Lis-
towel, a friend of the groom. Ushers
were. Phil Donkersgoed, Ethel,
Kevin Gibson, Listowel and Lowell
Shoemaker, RR 1, Gowanstown, all
friends of the groom. •
The bride's mother wore a dusty
rose dress with a dusty rose wrist
corsage. The groom's mother chose
burgundy with a corsage of pink
roses, baby's breath and sprays of
pearls. Phil Donkersgoed of Ethel
was master of ceremonies.
After a honeymoon touring
Ontario, the couple is residing at
RR 1, Bluevale.
St. Stephen's Guild
pians future events
CORRIE—Several upcoming
events were discussed and planned
when the ladies of St. Stephen's
Anglican Church Guild met at the
home of Mrs. Mary King. President
Mrs. Parrish opened the meeting by
asking all members to recite the
Guild Prayer. Devotions, a poem
and an excerpt from "Meditation
Moments" were read by Mrs. Lorna
Koebel.
Mrs. Dorothy guppel gave an
excellent financial report. Roll call
was answered by 11 ladies, with
donations for St. Monica House.
Teams were selected for the Penny
Collection, the leaders being Mrs.
Janet Hogg and Mrs. Joan Cane.
It was announced that the Octo-
ber meeting will be held on the 3rd
in St. Stephen's Church basement,
with Mrs. Ruppel looking after the
program. Each fnember is asked. to
take an item for Friendship House,
Goderich.
The Christmas party wasdis-
cussed and it was decided to -old it
in the church basement with cater-
ing provided. This will hopefully
take place on Friday, Dec. 1. A
church supper was planned for
Thursday, Sept. 28.
An exciting auction was held and
the president asked if members
would be interested in attending a
play at The Centre in the Square in
Kitchener. Lunch was served by
Mrs. Mary King and Mrs. Nellie
King.

Dr. John and Kay Mowbray of
B.C. visited with their cousins, Mr.
and Mrs. Lawrence Taylor on Satur-
day afternoon.
Mrs. Laura Johnston spent the
weekend with Mr. and Mrs. George
Johnston, Tara and Erin of Ilderton.
All attended the wedding of her
niece Sandra Johnston to John
Mitchell at the church of the
Epiphany, London on Sept. 9.
There were 230 pupils enrolled at
East Wawanosh Public School for
the start of classes Sept. 5, an
increase of 32 over 1988.
Staff change was Mrs. Lucie Tur-
cote-Lapaine transferred to Robert-
son Memorial School in Goderich.
We are pleased to welcome Mrs.
Sandy Thompson from Goderich
who will be teaching French. We
also welcome back Mrs. Nancy
Deer from a ons -year leave of
absence.
Mrs. Bernice Gross will be teach-
ing full-time this year.
Anyone interested in taking the .1-
1-1 Cooking Club is asked to be at
the W.I. Hall Sept. 25 or contact
Mrs. Glen Montgomery or Mrs.
Pete Campbell.
UCW ladies learn about
Christian stewardship
Whitechurch—The United
Church Women held their Septem-
ber meeting at the Mime of Mrs.
Elwood Groskorth in Coderich. The
topic was Christian Stewardship
and Finance, with Mrs. Pauline
Adams and Mrs. John Neilson as
leaders, followed with prayer by
Rev. John Neilson. Mrs. Neilson
read scripture from the 11th chapter
of Numbers, followed with prayer
by Mrs. Adams.
Mrs. Neilson read about the Unit-
ed Church working with the
Jamaican Church to help seasonal
Workers in Ontario, also working
together in the Caribbean. Mrs.
Adams told about the help the
struggling churches receive from
the Melees and Service Fund and
Mr. Neilsonave a report on mis-
sion aervlce from the London Con -
foul .
The roll call was answered by
nine, with ways of being a good
steward. The offertory and Least
Coin were received and Mrs.
Adams gave the offertory prayer.
Thank -you notes were received
from Mrs. Adams for the lunch
served after the funeral of %m
Inglis; from Clifford Laidlaw,
thanking the ladies for their work
in fixing the church kitchen and
from Dave and Isobel McDonald.
The ladies are reminded of the
rally Oct. 19 at Belgrave. Mr. Neil-
son closed the meeting with prayer
and a birthday tea followed.
The Presbytery of Bruce Maitland
met in Chalmers Presbyterian
Church on Tuesday, Sept. 12. The
ladies served refreshments prior to
the meeting and a noon meal was
served to 40 people.
