competed at a tournament late last month at Belgrave. Members and coaches of the Belgrave team

The Wgham boys lost their first
game to Harriston, but then
rebounded with wins over Port
Perry4itcl Kemptville before being
defeated by Goderich in the quarter
finals. '

Wingham came up against a
strong, 'well-balanced Harriston
club in game one.. Todd Norman
• ,..hurled a two -hitter for Harriston.
• Wingham's. Travis Baier stroked a
lead-off double in the second
inning,. but Norman struck out the
side to leave Baier stranded. Wing -
ham's other hit was a single by
Shawn Fair in the fifth inning,.

In their second game, the Squirts'
first four batters crossed the plate
courtesy of a grand slain homerun
by Jeremy Creeden after Fair and
Pegg had walked and Josh Johnston
had reached base on an error.
Port Perry picked up a run of its
own in the first without the benefit
of a base hit. Two walks, a fielder's
choice and an error led to the run.
Port Perry took the lead in the
fifth inning, scoring four times,
again without a base hit as they
drew five walks and capitalized on
two errors. They made it 6-4 in the
fifth on a triple and a single.
Neil Mowbray 'got one run back
for Wingham as he cranked a solo
homerun. Whighain won. it in the
seventh with two runs. Pegg sin-
gled and was replaced_ by pinch -
runner Evan Poll, whoscored on
Travis Baier's .double to left field.

Mark Gibson hurled' four and

He walked six and there were three
costly errors committed. He struck
out four.
Pegg finished the game, giving

Wingham outhit Kemptville 14-6
and yet had to settle for an9ther
tense victory. Kemptyille, jumped
into a 2-0 lead in the second' ;inning '
on two walks, two stolen bases and \
a double.
Wingham rebounded .to tie the
game in the third as Fair rattled a
solo homerun. Johnston then sin-
gled, but was forced out at second
as Pegg hit into a fielder's Choice.

Winghanvfinally took the lead in'
the sixth inning, pushing across
four runs compliments of consecu-
tive singles by Johnston, Pegg and
Creeden, another double by Baier
and singles by Machan and Gibson.
However, Kemptville didn't give
up, sowing two runs in the bottom
of the seventh and had the tying
run at the plate before they were
finally retired.
Pegg went the distance for the
win, allowing seven hits, walking
three and striking out seven.
Johnston turned a nice double
play in the sixth and Baier made a
nice over -the -shoulder catch in the
seventh to ease the Pressure.
Goderich 8, Wingham4
Wingham came up against its Tri -
County league rivals in game four.
Goderich loaded the bases With one
out in the second and tbenicored
all three on a fielding error. r.
There was no more scoring until
the seventh when Coderich again
capitalized on a fielding errpr to
score five unearned runs, including •
a three -run honter.
%/Ingham battled back in the bot-
tom of 'the seventh as Creeden
ripped a solo homerun and Baier
then singled. Mowbray followed
with a triple and Macbari had a
bunt single, followed by another
single by Chris Alexander. •"i
Alexander moved to second on a
passed ball and scored Win'gham's
final run when Fair lined a. single
up the middle. Wingham's rally
died there and Goderich moved on
to play Harriston in the semi-final.
Jeff Volland earned the win, giv-
ing up eight hits, striking out four
and he did not issue a walk.
Pegg took the loss going the dis-
tance. He allowed seven hits,
walked two and struck out three.
