You know them
This newspaper needs your help.immediatOr
We are seeking young' people in our community whom:you
know, vvell, but, who perhaps never have COMO to the atten-
tion of the community in which they live.
The Advance -Times is seeking these young people in con-
junction with the Ontario Community Newspapers Associa-
tion and -Canadian Airlines International; in order to recog-
nize their contribution to society.
Who are these young people Who make a Measurable dif-
ference?
You knowthem well.' They are the ones who find ways to
use their talents to help 'others. They might help at a day
care centre as a volunteer, Or slip next doer On a regular
basis to help an elderly friend, or a disabled person. They
reach out a hand to help any way they can,,without thought
of reward. The kinds of things they do are as varied as the
communities in which they live.
Weekly newspapers also are seeking young people who
have overcome a physical handicap and have managed to
do it with grace, dignity and courage. Many young people
have been faced with this kind of challenge from birth, or due
to accident or disease they have fought a daily battle to
maintain a normal life.
We also are seeking young people who have made a mea-
surable difference in our community through an act of brav-
ery beyond what the average young person faces in daily
life.
Junior Citizen nominations will come from across the
province. The Ontario Community Newspapers Association
and Canadian Airlines international will recognize each nomi-
inee by awarding them with a certificate.
From all nominations judges will select approximately 12
young people (and a group of young persons which works as
a team or club) to receive the Ontario Junior Citizen of the
Year Award. The newspaper association and Canadian Air-
lines International will bring award winners and their families
to Toronto to be introduced to the lieutenant governor.
The winners also will receive a plaque citing the reason for
their recognition, a Junior Citizen pin, a cheque for $200 and
a family portrait with the lieutenant governor to be taken at
Queen's Park. The visit to Toronto will be one Junior Citizens
and their families will long remember, as a 1986 winner from
Wingham, Barry McArthur, knows.
So help recognize a young person who makes a measur-
