Mt. Forest in WOAA
Wingham took the best two of
three series against Mount Forest in
the WOAA playoffs recently.
In the first game, Wingham start-
ed quickly as Trevor Machan
walked, Neil Mowbray had a bunt
single and Shawn Walker clubbed a
homerun.
In the fourth, Machan and Mow-
bray once again walked and sin-
gled respectively, then Trevis Baier
slapped a double. Mark Gibson
then singled to bring Baier home.
One more run was added in the
fifth as Evan Poll doubled and
scored on Mowbray's sing.e
Patrick Magee opened the sixth
with a single, Poll walked and then
Machan singled to drive Magee
home.
Mowbray punched another sin-
gle and stole second. Joel Pegg then
singled to cash in two runs.

tourney
BRUSSELS—On Thursday, Aug.
3, the Brussels Bowling Club held
its first a11 -ladies` tournament.
There were 32 ladies bowling on
eight greens. The weather was hot
and dry but a good breeze saved
the day.
Placing first were Helen Haines
and her partner from Mitchell, with
three wins and 46. Seeond was
Marjorie Solomon, three wins and
41 and an overplus of one; third,
Lois Haines of Clinton, two wins
and 45; fourth, Lilly Horn of
Atwood, two' wins and 39; fifth,
Vera Linder of Atwood, two wins
and 39; sixth, Viola Kirkby of Brus-
sels, two wins and 33; seventh, Elda
Coultes of Wingham, two wins and
29; eighth, Jean Bewley of Brussels,
two wins and 26.
Consolation went to Jean Math-
ers of Wingham.
Controlled hunt
is proposed for
Perth County
A controlled deer hunt has been
proposed for Perth County in 1989.
If enacted, the shotgun -muz-
zleloader season would be held
from Dec. 4 to 7 in parts of Perth
County. As of Aug. 11, the required
regulation change had not been
passed.
Any hunters interested in hunt-
ing in that area --should delay sub-
mitting their applications for anoth-
er controlled hunt until later in
August. By that time, the Wingham
office may have further ,information
on the status of the Petah treaty
hunt. Hunters are reminded that

Wingham wrapped up the scor-
ing on the seventh as Shawn Fair
walked on a fielder's choice and
scored on Magee's sing.e
Chris Alexanderr drew three
walks and Shawn Martin got
aboard once with a walk. Final
score was Wingham 12, Mount For-
est 0.
Mark Gibson threw an excellent
game, tossing a one -hitter, striking

He faced only 25 batters in the
seven innings.
The next game saw a fast start
with Wingham pushing across five
runs in the first inning and three
more in the second. Single runs
were added in the third and fifth.
In the sixth, Mount Forest hit the
scoreboard, plating five runs on
three singles, a walk, and two
errors.
Wingham rebounded in their half
of the sixth, scoring five runs. Jere-
my Creeden hit a three -run homer,
a triple, a single and a walk, scoring
three times to lead Wingham. Joel
Pegg reached base safely four times
with three singles and a walk, and
scored three times. Travis Baier had
a two -run double and two singles,
and scored twice, while Neil Mow-
bray slapped two singles and drew
a walk as -well as ,scoring `three runs; Baynton had a double and a
single and scored a run.
Derek Knight got aboard four
times and scored two runs, while
Evan Poll added a double and
scored the final run. Final score was
Wingham 17; Mount Forest 5.
Joel Pegg picked up the win,
allowing four hits and three walks,
while striking out 16.
Squirts earn spot in
OASA Provincial 'Ctournament
The Wingham Riverview Drive -
In Squirts have earned a spot in the
OASA Provincial Squirt "C" tour-
nament in Hamburg after edging
out Meaford in two games of a
"best of three" series.
In the first game, Wingham
opened the scoring in the third
inning when Shawn Fair scored a
sole home run.
Meaford came back with two
runs in the top of the fourth as
Wingham starter Joel Pegg devel-
oped control problems, giving up a
single and four consecutive walks
after striking out the first two bat-
ters. -
Mark Gibson relieved and struck
out the next batter to retire the side.
Wingham tied the game in th(
bottom of the fourth as Chri;
Alexzander drew a lead-off walk
but was retired when Jeremy Cree
den got aboard on a fielder'
choice. Creedon scored on Travi
Baier's double.
Meaford once again went aheac
by a run in the fifth, but Winghan.
battled back with a run of their own
when Gibson got aboard via an
error and came home on Shawn
Walker's double.
The boys won it in the sixth,
pushing two more runs across the
plate. Josh Johnston reached first on
an error and Neil Mowbray
cranked a triple. He then scored on
a passed ball.
For Wingham, Fiar went three for
three with two singles and a home -
run. -
Gibson picked up the win in
relief, scattering four hits while
striking out eight and issuing only
one walk.
In just over three innings, Pegg
gave up only three hits, but walked
nine. He struck out five.
Meaford's pitcher allowed six
hits and only one walk. He also
struck out 10, including seven of
the first nine batters he faced. Final

The second game turned into a
two -inning shut -out. Wingham sent
13 batters to the plate in the second
inning, scoring eight runs to offset
Meaford's one run on the first.
Meaford added another run in the
second but Wingham picked up
another in the third, and two in
each of the fourth and fifth innings
to take a commanding. 1.3-2 lead
into the sixth inning.
Meaford came back with 16 bat-
ters scoring 10 runs. Before the
inning was over they had managed
eight singles, a double and four
walks.
Wingham hurler Mark Gibson
began the game, and was relieved
by Pegg in the sixth.
Gibson allowed eight hits,
walked one and struck out eight.
Peg gave up five hits, walked four
and struck out three.
The seventh was a three up, three
down inning with Shawn Walker
crushing a two -run homer, a two -
run triple, a single and a walk to
lead Wingham.
Neil Mowbray also banged out a
two run home run and two singles,
and scored three times. Shawn Fair
collected two singles and scored
twice. Trevor Machan also had a
couple of singles and scored once.
Baier picked up a single and a walk
and crossed the plate twice. Craig

Walker crossed the plate three
times.
Pegg stroked a triple and a single
and scored three times while Baier
hit a double and a single, and
scored three times.
Shawn Fair slapped two singles
and scored a run, while Mowbray
and Machan each collected a single
and scored once.
Danny Gusso punched a single
through the left side an& stepped
on home plate once as well.
Chris Alexander struck three sin-
gles and walked twice.
Gibson collected a walk, reached
first with a fielder's choice and
scored twice.
Evan Poll got aboard four times
with a walk, a fielder's choice and a

All the boys played well defen-
sively, committing no errors.
