UCW host birthday party
for their friends over 80
BELGRAVE-The afternoon unit
of the United Church Women was
in charge of a birthday party for
those who have reached the age of
80 or over, their friends and rela-
tives. Mrs. Glenn Coultes and Mrs.
Jim Hunter arranged a very enjoy-
able afternoon, with Mrs. Coultes in
charge. Music for the afternoon was
provided by the trio of Mrs. Nor-
man Coultes, Gordon McBurney
and Alex Robertson.
Mrs. Coultes welcomed the
guests and their friends and started
the program with a hymnsing of
old-time hymns from the new
hymn books, which everyone
enjoyed singing. Mrs, Harold Vin-
cent conducted a short worship ser-
vice, the theme of which was "Car-
ried Over the Rough Spots". Fol-
lowing the call to worship, "In The

G spe1. Mrs. Vincent then read the
spirational "Footprints in the
Sand", in which the Lord promises
to carry His followers through
times of trial and suffering. Mrs.
Vincent reinforced that promise by
adding, "When we are in the midst
of trials and tribulations, we, too,
are caught up in our own self-pity
and worry, to realize we are not
alone and we, too, are being carried
over the rough spots."
A hymn and prayer concluded
the worship and the closing hymn
was "Amazing Grace". Mrs.
Coultes introduced Rev. and Mrs.
Peter Tucker to the gathering and
Mr. Tucker gave a brief message.
Mrs. Ross Higgins, UCW presi-
dent, asked the UCW ladies their
wishes regarding the flood disaster
and they agreed to send $100 to the
Harrow UCW Flood Relief. The
musical trio played a number of
old-time tunes and a singsong was
enjoyed. The concluding, hymn was
"Let There Be Peace on Earth".
After the singing of "Happy
Birthday", Mrs. Olive Bolt and Mrs.
Bertha Cook cut the cakes and
angel cake, ice cream and tea were
served by the unit. The tables were
centred with sweet peas and baby's
breath.
Following is a list of the special
guests: Mrs. Marian Wright, Mrs.
