Game one was held in Wingham on July 29 with the home team win- ning 5-2. Peter Poulin pitched a four -hitter for the Wingham squad, striking out six and going the dis- tance. Poulin also had a perfect night at the plate, going three -for -three with three doubles. Tim Currie had a triple and Russ Sutton, Todd Chad- wick and Rob Harrison had singles to round out a good game full of sharp defensive plays. The second game was in Meaford last Tuesday, Aug. 1, with the Wingham boys taking a first - inning, three -run lead and eventu- ally winning 5-2. Scott Neil pitched a fine four -hit- ter, keeping the Meaford batters off balance the whole night. Jeff Storey and Currie paced the Wingham attack with two hits each and singles went to Steve Bourne, Chadwick and Jason Balzer. The Lake Huron Moving Ban- tams played in the Tri -County league this season, ending up win- ning the league championship with only two losses and a tie. The boys are eagerly awaiting the OASA Bantam 'C' tourney, the WOAA major 'A' playoffs and the Tri - County playoffs. This year's team consists of Cur- rie, Bourne, Sutton, Paul Sakasov, Poulin, Storey, Harrison, Neil, Chadwick, Balzer, Jason Bloemberg and Dave McKee. Coaches are Grant Currie and Dave Bourne. Be sure to come out and support the local boys during the upcoming playoffs. Lawn bowlers host 52 at July tournament On Saturday, July 29, 52 ardent bowlers took part in a lawn -bowl- ing tournament sponsored by West- ern Foundry at the Wingham greens. After an enjoyable afternoon of bowling, the winners were deter- mined. They are: first, Jack Fisher, Luc - know; second, Brad Fleming, Sar- nia; third, Jack MacDonald, Luc - know; fourth, Dr. Leahy of Kitchen- er bowling with the Teeswater club; fifth, Elmer Murray, Clinton; sixth, Tom Wilson, Forest; seventh, Art McCullough, Brampton; eighth, Pat Rowland, Brussels; ninth, Jim Coultes, Brussels; tenth, Alan Gled- hill, Goderich and finally, Wilbur Brown of Lucknow and his partner won the consolation prize. INTERNATIONAL MEET COMPETITORS—A number of young athletes from the Wingham Optimist Track and Field Club represented the town at a recent meet at Buffalo. Lisle sets international record at Buffalo track meet The accolades just keep coming for young Wingham athlete Julie Lisle, who set an international youth record in the 80 -metre hur- y HORSE SHOES AO, rs Single -round games of 30 points were played last Thursday evening at the Wingham Sportsmen's Club. Harold Carter and Harold Maize topped the scoring with five wins, while Leon Russell and Lorne Hamilton were second, four wins and a plus of 26. Lorne Kuntz and Ivan Rivett were third, three wins and a plus of 33. Syd Lawson and Kevin Scott took fourth place, two wins and a plus of 62 and Glen Casemore and Bill Tif- fin were fifth, one win and a plus of 74. Rounding out the scoring in sixth spot were Eugene Kuntz and Mason Robinson, no wins and a plus of 82. The Sportsmen's Club is hosting a horseshoe tournament this Satur- day, Aug. 12, at 1 p.m. dies at a recent international track meet at Buffalo, New York. A contingent of young Wingham athletes attended the 14th Annual Girls' and' Women's Buffalo Belles and the 5th Annual Boys' and Men's Buffalo International Track and Field -Age Group Classic. This large meet attracted athletes from various parts of the Ontario and the United States. in the Atom girls' category, Lisle won three medals. Her 13.1 sec. performance in the 80m hurdles earned her the gold medal, as well as set a meet and international youth record and was a personal best. She also won the gold medal in the discus at 24.14m, another meet record, as well as a silver medal in the long jump, 4.39m. Other Wingham medal winners included sister Janet. Lisle in the Mite girls': gold in the 200m, 35.1 sec., silver in the 100m, 16.3 sec., personal best and silver in the long jump, 3.12m. Mite girl Ginny Schenk won the bronze medal in the 200m, 36.0 sec. Patrick Nolan, a Mite boys' com- petitor, came home with two bronze medals, one in the shot put, 3.75m and the other in the long jump. 2.85m. Tyke girl Mary Lisle won the gold medal in the shot put, 3.87m.' Tyke boy Michael Nolan won•the silver medal in the shot put with a personal best throw of 6.36m. Carolyn Pike, competing in the Atom girls' category, was a triple medal winner. She won the gold in the shot put, 8.58m; silver in the discus, 21.73m, a personal best and bronze in the 80m hurdles, 15.5 sec., another personal best. Other Wingham results include: MITE GIRLS—tinny Schenk, 100m, 17.3 sec., fourth, tong jump, 2.97m, fourth; Jennifer Pike, 100m, 19.4 sec. (P.B), 200m, 41.8 sec. (P.B.), long jump, 2.63m; Deborah Pike, 100m, 20.0 sec. (P.B.), long jump, 2.21m; Marianne Pike, long jump. 1.85m; MITE BOYS—Patrick Nolan, 400m, 1:35.5 min.; TYKE GIRLS—Mary Lisle, long jump, .3.44m, fourth; 100m, 15.8 sec.;• • •t+: TYKE BOYS—Michael Nolan, 400m, 1:21 min.; ATOM GIRLS—Lesley Pike, 1,500m, 7:07.8 min., shot put, 5.81m (P.B.), fifth and discus, 13.19m (P.B.); BANTAM BOYS—Shawn Ged- cke, 100m, 13.8 sec. (P.B.), 400m, 1:05 min., long jump, 4.76m, (P.B.). This meet ends the outdoor track and field season. Cross-country will start in September. BOYS COMPETE AT MEET --Patrick Nolan, Shaun Gedcke and Michael Nolan, all members of the Wingham Optimist Track and Field Club competed at a recent meet at Buffalo, New York, the last meet of the 1989 outdoor season. Patrick won bronze medals in the shot put and long jump, Shaun recorded personal bests in the 100 - metre and 400m races, while Michael won a silver medal in the shot put.
