She was 90 years of age, born in Turnberry Township on Dec. 24, 1898. The former Ethel Hastings, daughter of the late Peter Hastings and Maude Leggatt, Mrs. Day received her elementary education at Wroxeter and attended sec- ondary school in Wingham and business school in Hamilton. She worked as a bookkeeper. Mrs. Day always took a keen interest in sports and in community and church activities. A member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, sate was a life member of the Women's Missionary Society'. She also belonged to the Legion Ladies' Auxiliary and the Rebekahs. Mrs. Day was predeceased by her husband, George L. Day, in 1964. She was the dear mother of John and Janet Day of Wingham; grand- mother of Jane Day of RR 1, Wing - ham and great-grandmother of Jackilyn Day. She is also survived by two nieces and two nephews and was predeceased by her sister, Edna Hastings (1988). Friends paid their respects at The McBurney Funeral Home until Sat- urday at 1:30 when service was conducted by Rev. John P. Vaudry. Interment followed in Wingham Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ken Hastings, David Hastings, Larne Patters, Wayne Douglas, Bill King' and Mel Mathers, Jane Day was bearer of floral tributes. Albert Rintoul dies, was Wingham native A native of Wingham and long- time resident of the town, Albert Rintoul of 83 Carling Terrace, died Thursday, Aug. 3, in Wingham and District Hospital at the age of 77 years. Albert Rintoul, a son of the late Alexander Rintoul and Georgina Phippen was born Jan. 16, 1912, in Wingham and attended school here. He was employed by Western Foundry, Lloyd Doors and the Huron County School Board before his retirement in January of 1977. He was a member of the Wingham United Church and the Royal Cana- dian Legion. On Sept. 11, 1937, in Wingham, he married the former Jean Mar- garet Zurbrigg, who survives. He was the dear father of Jean and Walter Guetle of Elliot Lake; Charles and Joan Rintoul of Val Therese, Donald and Theresa Rin- toul of Kincardine. There are 10 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by one grandson, John Campbell and by his brother Kenneth in 1980. Complete funeral service was conducted by Rev. J. Rea Grant on Saturday at 3:30 at The McBurney Funeral Home. Final resting place is Wingham Cemetery. Lydia A. Schinbein, 89, dies at Geri -Care home Lydia Almeda Schinbein, 89, a resident of Geri -Care Nursing Home, Harriston, died July 26 in Palmerston hospital. Born April 4, 1900, in Wallace Township, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Martin (Sophia Habermehl) Bender. On Feb. 11, 1920 she married Henry Schinbein of Wallace Town- ship. The couple farmed in Wallace until moving into Listowel in 1960. Mr. Schinbein died in 1976. Mrs. Schinbein was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Listow- el, and of the St. Paul's Ladies' Aid group. Mrs. Schinbein is survived by one son, Lyle and his wife Beverley of Gowanstown; one daughter, Mrs. George (Ruby) Gallaway of Wing - ham; one sister, Mrs. Susie Fetter of Milverton; one daughter-in-law, Betty Schinbein of Listowel; and by 11 grandchildren and 20 great- grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one son, Lorne; by three sisters, Mrs. Maggie. Krotz, Mrs. Viola Ament and Mrs. Annie Forbeck; and by one son-in- law, George Gallaway. The funeral service was held Fri- day, July 28 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Listowel. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Listow- el. REAL. DEATHS MATTHEWS—Passed away Thursday, Aug. 3, at Fordwich Vil- lage Nursing Home, Miss Louise Elliott Matthews of Fordwich, in her 85th year. Born in Howick Township, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Sarah Matthews. She had worked as a telephone operator in Fordwich and as a nurs- es' aide at Fordwich Village Nurs- ing Home. She was predeceased by her sister, Letitia, and is survived by first cousins, Emma Edwards of Listowel and Margaret Friar of Paisley. Funeral service was. held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Gorrie, on Friday at 8 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Paul Chambers officiated. Inter- ment followed in Fordwich Ceme- tery. The MacPherson Funeral Chapel, Teeswater, was entrusted with arrangements. After 40 yrs. you're still looking good!
