The limitless opportunities fay, advert'e and exploration make a farm yard a haveniplay, .ter chil- dren. But it can also be a place of unseen and unexpected dan- ger. As any farmer knows, agricultural ,equipment, chemicals: and live -:stock are not playthings. They are tools, not toys., Each year many young lives are :lost and many ~more injuries occur because of farm accidents. In 1 7 alone, 22 children died on Canadian farms as a direct result of agricultural accidents and the sad fact is -- most of -these tragic deaths could have been avoided if the four Es to child safety had been enforced. Th100 Farm Safety Week — a good time to review your operatfon, ensure Its safe and to look closely at the four Es: Elimin a the hazards; Educate the children ;on how: to behave ,around machinery and livestock;. Enforce safety rules and -mesf- important, set a good Example for the young farm- ers of ,sorrow.
