Pitching, defense improve
the record of BP Juniors
The Wingham BP Juniors are
learning that solid pitching and
good defense will keep them in
most games. The team has given up
only two runs in its last three
games.
Brussels defeated the BPs 2-1 on
Sunday, June 4. Wingham scored at
its first bat when Steve Coultes
tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly
by Bevin Fiett.
Brussels scored both its runs in
the bottom of the first when Brett
Martin hit the first two batters and
both scored on a triple by Doug
Conley. Martin and Tom McDonald
combined to throw a five -hitter,
while Conley allowed seven hits for
the victory
Last Tuesday, the visiting Chep-
stow Aces and the BPs tangled in a
classic 1-0 fastball game. Coultes, in
the BPsfirst inning, scored the only
run of the game after getting on
base on an error.
Byron Bowman scored Coultes
with a line drive single to left field.
Darwin Erb and Dave Wheeler
combined for the pitching victory
allowing only three hits and strik-
ing out 10 Chepstow hitters.
The BPs managed only two hitE
off the Chepstow pitching of Vince
Mullin and Spitzig.
On Sunday, the BPs continued
their excellent play with a 2-0 win
over Chesley. McDonald dominated
the Chesley hitters; allowing only
one Mt while striking out 13 bat-
ters. The BPs scored their runs
again in thefirstbat. Jason GOOdah
and Corey McKee scored following
