Last Wednesday evening, 543
Squadron of the Royal Canadian
Air Cadets held its sixth annual
inspection at the Lockridge Memo-
rial Arena in Wingham.
The gala event is traditionally
held at the end of the cadet year to
publicly demonstrate the various
skills, knowledge and activities the
Wingham and area cadets are
engaged in.
The large crowd of visitors
attending the happening was treat-
ed to an exciting evening.
The squadron was inspected by
Major R. Mathers, area cadet liaison
officer, assisted by: area cadet advi-
sor Capt. F. Fox of Canadian Forces
Base; London; area cadet league
representative John Chippa Sr.; Jack
Blackwell, chairman of the Cadet
Liaison Committee of Branch 180 of
the Royal Canadian Legion and
squadron commander WO1 Mar-
jorie Campbell. -
After a smart march -past of the
entre 50 -member squadron, Maj.
Mathers, the reviewing officer, was
introduced to the audience and the
cadets by Capt. Mac Anderson,
master of ceremonies for the
evening.
In his address to the cadets, Maj.
Mathers reflected that each succes-
sive generation leaves and indelible
stamp on the fabric of a nation. He
focused on Canada's past 50 years
and outlined the contributions
made by the several generations
from World War iI t�, the enc
He emphasized that, 't -The work
of one generation is never finished
for the next." He urged the cadets
to use their education and training
to make Canada and the world a
better place to live.
Also introduced to the audience
and cadets were Mr. Chippa; Don
Farnell, president of Branch 180;
Capt. Earl Mino, commanding offi-
cer of 543 Squadron and his staff of
officers and civilian instructors;
Capt. Anderson, training; Ocdt.
Debbie Szipocs, training; CI Arnold
Lillow, flying instructor; CI Rick
Whiteley, flying instructor; CI Rudy
Hooftman, supply; Ocdt. Kevin
Stewart, range; Ocdt. Mandy Stew-

An entertaining skit, involving
first-aid emergency :treatmpat anct
directed by Sgt. Hooftman, added a
humorous touch to the event.
Static displays of flying scholar-
ship information, survival equip-
ment, motorized glider models,
range equipment, competition
:del aircraft and a working
ihodel of CFB Trenton added great-
ly to the occasion.
The evening was concluded with
the serving of refreshments upstairs
in the arena.
The officers and cadets of 543
Squadron thank everyone who has
assisted the squadron throughout
the year. A special thank -you is in
order to the people of Wingham for
allowing the Cadets to use the town
facilities and to members of Branch
180 for their unwavering support in
sponsoring the squadron.
The squadron will hold its sec-
ond -last general parade in the
Armouries tomorrow evening, June
7, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The winner of
the competition model aircraft tro-
phy will be announced at that time.
