Area friends mourn death
of Rev. Barry Passmore
Wingham-area friends were sad-
dened to learn last week of the sud-
den death of a former resident and
minister of the Wingham United
Church, Rev. K. Barry Passmore of
2645 3rd Ave. W., Owen Sound,
which occurred Satur• ' y, ay 20,
in that city.
Mr. Passmore was bort'57 y • , rs
ago in the city of Sarnia and
received his education in Forest and
Sarnia. He attended Huron College,
University of Western Ontario and
in 1961, graduated from Pine Hill
Divinity School at Halifax, now the
Atlantic School of Theology. While
attending theology school, he
served two summers at a mission
field in Northern British Columbia.
On graduation, Mr. Passmore
became minister of the five -point
Richmond -Corinth pastoral charge
in Elgin County. From 1964 to 1968

.he served at a London church and
in 1968 he came to Wingham
where, over the next 12 years, he
and his wife raised their family and
were actively involved in many
community organizations and
activities, in addition to providing
leadership to the large church fami-
ly. They moved to Owen Sound in
1981, where he was minister of
Knox United Church.
Mourning his sudden death are
his wife, the former Mary Margaret
Essery of Exeter. They were mar-
ried in 1958 in Centralia. Sharing
her loss are their sons, Mark of
Hamilton and Vaughn of Toronto
and their daughter, Mrs. David
(Pamela) Pountney of Owen Sound.
There are two brothers, Wilbur of
Mississauga and Murray of Sarnia
and a sister, Frances Ulrich of For-
est. He was predeceased by his
brother, Douglas.
Many friends from Wingham and
area joined Owen Sound friends
and members of his congregation as
visitation was held Monday, May
22, at the Breckenridge -Ashcroft
Funeral Home, Owen Sound.
Funeral service was held Tuesday
morning at Mr. Passmore's church,
conducted by United Church minis-
ters from Owen Sound and a long-
time friend, Rev. Joe Vaughn of
Keppel-Sarawac charge. Pallbearers
were six members of the board of
elders of Knox United Church.
Rev. Barry Passmore's final rest-
ing place is Greenwood Cemetery,
Owen Sound.
Former Wroxeter woman
dies in Hanover .hospital
A former resident of Wroxeter,
Mrs. Mabel McArthur, passed away
Wednesday, May 24, at Hanover
and District Hospital, in her 74th
year. She was the loved wife of the
late Archi McArthur; beloved
daughter of James Bridge of Lion's
Head; loving mother of Robert and
his wife Connie of Fraserwood,
Manitoba; Ken and his wife Diane,
Wingham; Gary and his wife Lorna
of Gorrie; Ronald and his wife Mar-
ion of Gorrie; Norma and her hus-
band, Wilfred Bailey, Hanover;
Ruth and her husband, Bill Wilson,
Woodstock; Shirley and her hus-
band, Basil Murray, Glencoe; Made-

Edward Ralph Keffer died sud-
denly at his Norte, RR 2, Bluevale,
on Saturday, May 27, in his 76th
year.
Ralph Keffer was the beloved
husband of the former Thelma
Flood; loving father of Larry and
Pat Keffer, Bluevale; Brenda and
Howard Turner, Wroxeter; Bethany
and Gordon Edgar, Bluevale and
the late Keith Ian Keffer; loved

dies at his home
Passed away at his home on Fri-
day, May 26, Leo Palubeskie of
Wingham, in his 78th year.
He was the beloved husband of
Genevieve (Sernoskie); dear father
of Ben of Laurel, Ursula of Arnpri-
or, Tom of Brampton, Albert of
Windsor, Basil of Palmerston, Vin-
cent of Alton, Isadore of Brampton,
Janet of Barrie, Margaret of Bramp-
ton, Greg of Arnprior and Christo-
pher of Wingham; also survived by
five sisters, one brother and 15
grandchildren. He was predeceased
by his sons, Robert and Florian; one
brother; one granddaughter and
one grandson.
Mass of the Christian Burial was
celebrated at Sacred Heart Roman
Catholic Church, Wingham, on
Monday at 11 a.m., Rev. Stan
Soltysik officiaing. Interment fol-
lowed in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Family prayers were held at The
McBurney Funeral Home, Wing -
ham, on Sunday at 8:30 p.m.

ing a brief illness at Wingham and
District Hospital on Tuesday, May
16, Ross Toman, in his 71st year.
Dear friend of the late Jessie Koch;
loving brother of Wallace Toman of
Kitchener, Elgin Toman and Ludea
Sararas, both of New Hamburg,
Mrs. Louis (Grace) Holm of
Roseville and Mrs. Howard
(Rudene) Bowman of Mannheim;
remembered by seven nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by
his parents, Ira H. Toman and Ethel
Kriesel and by two brothers, Ralph
and Burkle, who was killed in the
Second World War. Mr. Toman was
the proprietor of Toman Bakery in
Wroxeter until his retirement 12
years ago. The family received
friends at the Westmount Funeral
Chapel, Kitchener, on Thursday,
May 18. Service and committal
were held in the chapel on Friday,

He was predeceased by his brother,
Harvey Burgess. Cremation took
place. A graveside service will be
held at Wingham Cemetery on Fri-
day, June 2, at 1 p.m.
