Page 2B - The Wingham Advance-Thnea, May 30,19 a SP RTS Optimist track team wins at Tottenham Twenty -nine -youngsters from the Wingham Optimist Track and Field Club travelled to Tottenham to par- ticipate in the South Simcoe Duf ferin Meet recently. Athletes were in top form, earn- ing 35 ribbons and 32 personal bests. The Mite and Bantam Girls° teams both won team champi- onships. Janet Lisle led the way in the Mite division, earning first place ribbons in the 100 and 200 - metre races, and second place in long jump. Ginny Schenk was in fine form, coming third in the 100 metre and fourth in the 200 metre races, and third in the long jump. Jennifer Pike picked up a third- place ribbon in long jump. In Tyke boys, Devin Chaulk earned third place in the 400 -metre run and fourth in the long jump. Teammate Chris Fox placed fifth in the 200 metre and sixth in the long jump. Julie Lisle competed in discus for the first time and placed first. Lisle also earned first place in the 400 - metre run and placed first in shot put, setting a new meet record. Lisle ran in the Bantam Girls 4x100 - metre relay, placing first. Carolyn Pike placed 2nd in the shot put and third in discus. Ban- tam Natasha Muscheid was -a triple I first -place ribbon winner, placing first in the 200 -metre, 400 -metre and triple juinp. Teammate Ibukun Omole also was a triple -ribbon win- ner, earning first in the 100 -metre, and second in both the triple jump and long jump. Competing in her first meet, Andrea Gauld put forth excellent efforts earning third place in triple jump and fifth in the 400 -metre run. The Bantam Girls' relay, with Lisle, Omole, Muscheid and Gauld, placed first. Derrick Evers ran in excellent font to earn first in both the 1,500 and 3,000 -metre races. Five Madill athletes qualify for OFSAA Five local athletes will be com- peting in the OFSAA Track and Field meet in Toronto this week. Eleven members of the Madill Track and Field team competed against athletes from CWOSSA, SWOSSA and WOSSA at the OFSAA West Regional Meet held Belgrave Mites down Wingham The Belgrave Mites held their first baseball game of the season May 25 at Belgrave. The team played a terrific game, downing Wingham 20-13. Belgrave players include Marc Alexander, Adam Garniss, Victor Buchanan, Kevin Campbell, Jason and Justin Howatt, Jay Sanders David and Michael McBurney, Daniel Sterenberg, Peter Irwin, Ryan Cook, David Piluke, Jamie McCallum, Jeremy and Matthew Campbell, Tim Embling, Michael Marks and Jason Curtis. The Mites are under the leader- ship of John Campbell, along with some of the parents. The next game is Thursday evening, June 1, at 7 p.m. in Bel - grave against Bluevale at the old ball diamond. Area players picked in Midget draft Two former Wingham Ironmen have been drafted into the OHA Junior "A" ranks in the OHL Midget Priority hockey draft last weekend in Toroiiio.
