Colleen Bulger, a ministry of
health officiatis familiar with such
exercises and offered several com-
ments.
When the fire department arrived
on the scene, there appeared to be
some confusion about patient prior-
ity, .Ms: Bulger said. Spine patients
(all high school drama students)
who were deemed high-priority
were among the last to be treated,
while non-critical patients were
given prompt attention.
For example, she said, a vital -
signs -absent patient (dead), was
among the first to be moved when
he should have been last.
However, she did say the fire
department did a good job clearing
the area and controlling the imagi-
nary gas leak.
In response, Fire Chief Harley
aunt said• the department. has sev- '

the gas leak and to the waiting
ambulances.
The students played their roles to
the fullest — weeping, moaning,
screaming or even playing dead as
required.
The first patients arrived at the
hospital at 11:15 a.m. where they
were "triaged", or sorted, into vari-
ous treatment rooms depending on
the severity of their pseudo -
injuries.
All available hospital staff were
used during the exercise, including
many who were off duty, but called
in when the emergency was
declared.
The entire exercise was over
shortly after noon.
