Special Division Music Ministries will stage a promotional contest at the Ripley District School on Satur- day, June 3, just prior to starting out on tour of the United States in the next few months. Special Division — Mark Hussey, vocals, guitar and harmonica; Jim English, guitar and background vocals; Jeff Mann, string bass; and Chris McIntosh, drums and back- ground vocals — are also set to return to the studio to finish the group's first recording. The group has been together for Madill student elected delegate to convention A 17 -year-old F. E. Madill Sec- ondary School student has been elected as a delegate to the federal New Democratic leadership con- vention in Winnipeg. Ben Barnes of RR 5, Brussels is a Grade 11 student at Madill and is the president of the Huron -Bruce NDP Youth organization. He was elected as one of four members -at -large at the Ontario Youth Convention in Ottawa on May 7 and after being nominated, gave a short speech to the 125 dele- gates attending that meeting. He has served as a page at the Ontario legislature as well as win. rdrt anatipnaVscietice cOmpetitiotie • 4 has been a tnernber of the ra approximately 18 months, but has developed into something far beyond even its own expectations, according to manager Linda Stew- art of RR 5, Lucicnow. Special Division ministers at youth rallies for all denominations, missions, high schools and rock fes- tivals, and has travelled a far away as Darien Lake in New York, Sud- bury, Welland, Hamilton, and Kitchener, as well as many local, outreaches. One of the group's favorite loca- tions is the Evergreen Youth Out- reach on Toronto's Yonge Street. "We have many experiences we could share, but most of all, we are thankful for the opportunity to share from our hearts — through our music — with young people of all ages,and from all different walks of life," Stewart said. Special Division also performed at the Bluewater Youth Centre in Goderich at Christmas time and the four are looking forward to return- ing there soon. Recently, the group received a gift of money which is to be used to cover the expenses of finishing its first recording. As a result, Special Division plans to return at the end of June to Masterview Studios in Ithaca, New York, to cut eight more songs to complete the album. The first two were recorded in March. The cassettes and CDs will be ready for distribution in August. For the recording sessions, the group is working with Peter Hop - Per and Fred Cage. Madill Sec- ondary School. Leslie Marxheimer, Wingham recreation director, says the evening is planned by the Wingham and Area Community Arts Committee. It will bring together,a showcase of creative, cultural and artistic activi- ties from our own area. There will be displays and demonstrations by over 20 individ- uals and groups. These include quilting, dolimaking, watercolor painting and decoy carving., Display's by organizations such as the Wingham Towne Players, the Wingham Happy gang and the Wingham Branch Library also -Will. provide information a rarifa-crfor interested people. Music, dance and -drat' ha will be featured during a special perfor- mance for Art 'n' Action '89. The Wingham Canadettes, the F. E. Mad Stage Band, Scottish dancers and several other local groups will demonstrate their talents.
