Friends here were sorry to hear
of the death last week .of Mrs.
William Campbell of Harriston, for-
merly of the Fordwich area. Funeral
service was held in Harriston on
Wednesday, May 10, at the Hardy -
Lee Funeral Home, with burial in
Fordwich Cemetery
Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Simmons visit-
. ed Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs.
Doug Wildfang, Mississauga.
The sympathy of the community
goes to Mr. and Mrs. Morley Brears
who received word that the latter's
grandmother, Mrs. Bertha
Sorensen, had passed away in Den-
mark.
Friends of John McElwain will be
pleased to hear that he returned
home last week from Listowel
Memorial Hospital where he had
been a patient for some time.
Everyone wishes him a veryspeedy
return to good health.
Swine Club.
judges gilts
The North Huron 4-H Swine
Club held its first meeting at the
home of member Dave Winkel.
President Hazel Rae opened the
meeting with the 441 Pledge and
the members judged a class of four
bred gilts. They then moved to the
house, reviewed their lesson on
judging and had a general intro-
duction to the Swine Housing and

The next meeting will be held at
the farm of Ron .Klingenberg on
June 13 at 8 o'clock.lt judging com-
petition will be held in Brussels on
May 27.
The :meeting closed and lunch
was served by Mrs. Winkel.

John Van de Kemp has returned
home after a three-week holiday
with his brother, Case Van de
Kemp, near Amsterdam, Holland,
and other relatives. Mrs. John Van
de Kemp visited at the homes of
Mr. and Mrs. Tim Van de Kemp of
Embro, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Van de
Kemp, Wingham, Mr. and Mrs.
John Van de Kemp Jr,, Gorrie, RR 2,
and Mr. and Mrs. William
Klumpenhower, RR 2, Wroxeter.
Mrs. Alvin Mundell attended the
meeting of Maitland Presbyterial
held at Ripley on Monday.

from 'Mrs. Bernice Marriner in the

Huron WI District annual meeting
held in Melville Presbyterian
Church, Brussels, on Tuesday May
9.
Minnie McElwain and Mrs.
Annie Pittendreigh spent the week-
end with Mr. and Mrs. Ian Pitten-
dreigh in London and on Saturday
night attended a miscellaneous
shower for Annie's granddaughter,
Jillian Pittendreigh, held at the
home of Barbara Plante in London.
The Fordwich 1st Guides, their
leaders and assistants enjoyed a
weekend of camping at Keewaydin
Camp, near Amb,erley. Ellen
Kennedy, Alyson Nickel, Heather
Skill, Eileen Clarkson, Martena
Mertick and Gertie Heipel cite'; fed
with 21 girls, The Guides and
Brownies will hold their banquet
Producing less garbage
is theme of VAI annual
BRUSSELS --"Let's Produce Less
Garbage" was the theme for the
87th East Huron WI District annual

rian Church here on Tuesday, May
9. The meeting was opened by the
president, Mrs. Ted Klaassen, using
the Opening Ode, Mary Stewart
Collect and The Lord's Prayer. A
welcome from the host branch was
•extended, followed by the ratifica-
tion of the District directors.
Miss Margaret Shortreed, hortreed, secre-
tary -treasurer, gave her report and
several other reports were given,
including one from Junior WI.
Board member for Guelph Area,
Mrs. Lorianne Schmidt, gave. some
very worthwhile information and
the group also heard from Jane
Muegge from the Clinton OMAF
office, concerning 4-H and adult
workshops for the coming year.
Each branch gave a presentation
of the theme for the day. A lot of
good ideas were given in many dif-
ferent forms: skits, demonstrations,
poems and songs. Roll call, present-
ing their Pennies for Friendship,
was answered by 10 branches and
the junior 4,1/I.:::Present were 80
members and eight visitors, among
them the Guelph Area president,
Mrs. Francina Sebben. A memorial
service "was conducted for deceased
members.
Election of officers took place and
the new officers were installed by
Mrs. Schmidt. They are: past presi-
dent, Mrs. Klaassen of Fordwich;
president, Mrs. James McMahon,
Ethel; first vice-president, Mrs. Lyle
Foerter, Clifford; second vice-presi-
dent, Mrs. Jean Wilson, Listowel;
secretary -treasurer, Miss Margaret
Shortreed, Walton; public relations
officer, Mrs. Elmer Harding, Ford-
wich; Tweedsmuir curator, Mrs.
Harold Gibson, Fordwich; program
coordinator, Mrs. Wilson; resolu-
tions, Mrs. Brenda Perrie, Brussels.
A motion was made that $200 be
given to the Associated Country
Women of the World, the WI's affil-
iated organization. Courtesy
remarks were given for a great day
and an invittion_was extended to
hold they $8th district annual meet-
ing on May 8, 1990, in Fordwich
United Church. Women are remind-
ed that June is Women's Institute
Month.
