It was the finest set_af burglary
tools that Wirigham Police Chief
Bob Wittig as seen in a while.
That's how Chief Wittig
described the kit left behind by bur-
glars making a hasty getaway when
an indoor alarm foiled their plans,
to hit the Zehrs store on Sunday,
April 30.
During presentation of his
monthly report to the May meeting
of the eingham Board of Police
Commissioners„ Chief Wittig
showed photographs of the elabo-
rate set of burglar tools and the
damage they created as the thieves
cut out a portion of the roof to pro-
vide entry into the store.
With the sudden noise of the
store's alarm system and prompt
arrival by police officers, the
thieves elected to make a hasty exit,
leaving their tools and any would-
be loot at the scene.
Chief Wittig told the board he
believes the thieves were after
cigarettes and reported that a Zehrs
store in the Guelph area had been
hit on that same date and approxi-

Eastern Star and foundation
donate to Wingham hospital
The Huron Chapter of the East-
ern Star, Wingham, its Ontario
foundation, as well as a local cou-
ple, have made significant dona-
tions to the Wingham and District
Hospital.
Last week, a spirometer and an
intravenous -therapy chair were
donated to the hospital by repre-
sentatives of the Huron Chapter
and the Florence Nightingale Home
Foundation.
The spirometer was received by
Bill Woodley, director of nursing at
the hospital and Mary Lou Thomp-
son, hospital board chairman, who
both thanked the Eastern Star for its
generosity
The spirometer, valued at $5,000,
is donated by the Florence Nightin-
gale Home Foundation, Grand
Chapter of the Eastern Star of
Ontario.
Scott Reid, a member of the local
Eastern Star chapter, says the foun-
dation helps equip Ontario hospi-
tals each year, but there is only so
much money to go around, so each
chapter must "wait its turn",
The Huron Chapter applied to
the foundation three years ago for
funds for the spirometer and only
recently was given the go-ahead.
• A spirometer is ,an apparatus
which electronically measures the
lung capacity of people lkthe are -te,
undergo anesthetic. It also is useful
in the treatment of asthma and
other lung ailments.
Mr Reid is proud to note that the
Winghamand Clintophospitals are
the only ones in_thisl area tO have
spirometers.

for the use of intravenous -therapy
(chemotherapy) patients.
