That's how Chief Wittig described the kit left behind by bur- glars making a hasty getaway when an indoor alarm foiled their plans, to hit the Zehrs store on Sunday, April 30. During presentation of his monthly report to the May meeting of the eingham Board of Police Commissioners„ Chief Wittig showed photographs of the elabo- rate set of burglar tools and the damage they created as the thieves cut out a portion of the roof to pro- vide entry into the store. With the sudden noise of the store's alarm system and prompt arrival by police officers, the thieves elected to make a hasty exit, leaving their tools and any would- be loot at the scene. (Photo courtesy of Ward and Patti Robertson) Eastern Star and foundation donate to Wingham hospital The Huron Chapter of the East- ern Star, Wingham, its Ontario foundation, as well as a local cou- ple, have made significant dona- tions to the Wingham and District Hospital. Last week, a spirometer and an intravenous -therapy chair were donated to the hospital by repre- sentatives of the Huron Chapter and the Florence Nightingale Home Foundation. The spirometer was received by Bill Woodley, director of nursing at the hospital and Mary Lou Thomp- son, hospital board chairman, who both thanked the Eastern Star for its generosity The spirometer, valued at $5,000, is donated by the Florence Nightin- gale Home Foundation, Grand Chapter of the Eastern Star of Ontario. Scott Reid, a member of the local Eastern Star chapter, says the foun- dation helps equip Ontario hospi- tals each year, but there is only so much money to go around, so each chapter must "wait its turn", The Huron Chapter applied to the foundation three years ago for funds for the spirometer and only recently was given the go-ahead. • A spirometer is ,an apparatus which electronically measures the lung capacity of people lkthe are -te, undergo anesthetic. It also is useful in the treatment of asthma and other lung ailments. Mr Reid is proud to note that the Winghamand Clintophospitals are the only ones in_thisl area tO have spirometers. The second presentation made last week was a new recliner chair for the use of intravenous -therapy (chemotherapy) patients. The chair, valued at $1,000, was purchased by Roy Bennett of Wing - ham and his late wife Margaret and the Huron Chapter of the Eastern Star.
