This two-day aerial and static festival features military, civilian and acro- batic craft from all across Canada and the United States. Last year, the first annual air fair celebrated the grand opening of the Manitoulin East Municipal Airport. This year, the second annual air fair celebrates expansion of services. The airport now has better lights, a commitment from the federal government for a non -directional beacon and the involvement of Heritage Canada in promoting tourism on the island. Last year about 7,000 people flew, sailed or drove to attend the grand air fair celebrations. Air shows will be held from 2 to 4 pm. on June 10 and 11, while displays will start at 9 a.m. and continue to closing both days. WPS students mark board's anniversary By Shannon Werth On Tuesday, May 2, the entire st dent body and staff of the Wing - ham Public School gathered in the primary yard for 'a special assem- y. Our principal, Mr. Robertson, made an introducto- ry speech about the history of edu- cation and how education has changed from past to present. • Then four representatives of past and present boards were intro- duced. The four speakers were: Mr. Roland, the present superintendent of education; Mr. Harris and Mr. Reid, past members. of the board and Mrs. Nolan, the present board representative. Our school was presented with a new flag, which was put up by two Wingham Public School students.. The senior choir, under the direc- tion of Mrs. Schedler, sang a song called "Education Is Opening Up the World". After the assembly, the students and staff enjoyed cake and a drink. We would like to thank Mrs. Train's class for making the cakes for the students and Mrs. Mitchell for mak- ing the cake for the teachers.
