Board goes ahead with the planned purchase of a new pumper truck this year. At its regular May meeting, council endorsed the resolution which states that Turnberry will only support and pay for a new pumper if the following conditions are met: --The fire department provides a needs and alternatives study for the pumper and it is adopted by the fire board. -The pumper, if needed, will be tendered by all interested parties on the standard tender forms. -Council calls for a model vehi- cle built in the same year as the pumper is purchased. -Council pays for the vehicle only when the proposed vehicle is delivered. 1 litTommvi J .. _ L\Tfl mg Phone 357-1630 for 24 hour movie information in PLAYING FROM FRIDAY TO THURSDAY, MAY 12TH TO 18TH. The board did agree, however, to delay action long enough to allow the representatives of the two dis- senting municipalities to seek fur- ther direction from their councils. The issue is expected to be dis- cussed at some length at the board's regular May meeting tomorrow night (Wednesday). Town council approves 1989 operating budget (Continued from Page 1) $113,200; parks, $2,200; cemetery, $1,500; day care, $22,600; sanitation, $73,700; debenture, $50,000; street lighting, $35,000; planning and industrial, $8,700; MVCA levy, $12,600; interest on bank loan, $30,000; donations, $1,600; animal control, $500; grant -day centre for homebound, $11,000; sick leave credits, $7,700; recreation master plan, $1,500; job search, $1,500; recycling program, $12,600. - Deputy Reeve Bill Harris acknowledged the "hard work" of the finance and management com- mittee for holding the budget to what is actually about a 4.4 per cent increase, but added that he is dis- turbed over the County of Huron's 20 per cent budget increase. "I know, but we have no control over that, unfortunately," Mr. Robertson replied. While the overall residential tax bill this year will increase by 7.4 per cent (public) or 8.8 per cent (sepa- rate), the town's portion has been kept to about 4.4 per cent. The Huron County Board of Edu- cation budget increase is about 10 per cent and the Huron -Perth Roman Catholic Separate School Board's 1989 budget is up about 14 per cent. -0-0-0- No, it's not only a fruit.
