Mrs, H. Matheson was
former school teacher
Hazel Margaret Stewart Mathe-
son passed away suddenly on April
13 at the home of her daughter in
Seafortle
Born in Langdon, North Dakota,
in 1901, Mrs. Matheson came to
Brussels in 1906 with her family.
She attended Brussels Public and
Continuation Schools and Toronto
Normal School. A school teacher in
Galt for five years, she started the
first Kindergarten in Brussels in
1960. She is fondly remembered by
the many students and teachers
with whom she was associated
from 1960 to 1966.
Married for 55 years to David
Clarke Matheson (18954983) th
were the parents of Murray of Bay-
field, Jean and her husband, Mur-
ray Ross of Seaforth and Ian and
his wife, Pat, of Agincourt; grand-
parents of Heather, Sandra, Alan,
Kimberley, David and Marianne
and great-grandparents of Greg
and Jody One of seven children of
Peter and Mary Stewart, Hazel is
survived by her sister, Mrs. Jean
Hemingway of Don Mills. She was
predeceased by brothers, Roy,
Archie, Graham and Stewart Lowe
and sister, Florence McGavin.
Hazel was a lifelong and dedicat- C
ed member of Melville Presbyterian
Church where she taught Sunday 2
School and the Mission Band and w
was a member of the choir, Ladies' w
Aid and WMS. She was presented H
with an honorary membership in e
the WMS in 1983. Her knowledge Sh
and interest in the community w
resulted in much valued local histo- 1)
ry and information being shared N
with one and all. She was honored' vi
with a Volunteer Service Award Br
from the Ontario Ministry of Citi-
zenship and Culture in 1984. 0

at Melville Church on Sunday after-

Passed away suddenly on Tues-
day,
April 18, at Wingham and Dis-
trict Hospital, Bob Hayward,
beloved husband of Anna Winn. He
was the loving father of Robert of
Calgary, Stuart and his wife, Mau-
reen, of Chatsworth, Steven and his
the wife, Pat, of Walkerton and daugh-
ter Anna and her husband, Bruce
Hamilton, of Brussels; loved grand-
father of Tambra, Tracy, Cory, C
dice, Robert, Jim, Shelley, Troy a
Melinda and two great-grandc
dren, Justin and Arnie. He was
dear brother of Evelyn, Barba
Gwen, Edith and Polly and the

Alex Coulter
was a native of
East Wawanosh
A native ok Bast Wawanosh
Township, born there on Sept. 14,
1912, William Alexander (Alex)
Coulter, died Monday, April 24, at
his home, 475 Ross Street, Luc- -
know. At 76 years of age, his death
followed a brief illness.
Alex was the son of the late
Frank Coulter and Mary Purdon.
He attended Zetland School, then
became a farmer, first in East
Wawanosh, late] in Alberta. He
retired in 1978. He was a member
of Goderich Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Coulter is survived by one
daughter, Mrs. Eric (Patricia) Maki
of RR 5, Lucknow and was prede-
ceased by one son, Reginald, in
1968. Also surviving are two grand-
children, Troy Maki of RR 5, Luc -
know and Jeffrey Coulter of
Goderich, as well as one sister, Mrs.
David (Isabel) MacDonald of Luc -
know. He was predeceased by one
brother, Chester, in 1961.
