Miss Griffith, born in Howick Township on Oct. 1, 1900, was predeceased by her parents, John and Elizabeth Grif- fith; four brothers: William, Samuel, Richard and George Griffith; two sisters, Mabel Taylor and Beatrice Adams; one niece and 10 nephews. Miss Griffith was a lifelong resi- dent of Howick Township until she moved to Maple Villa Apartments in Brussels in 1980, then to Callan- der Nursing Home in 1984. She was a faithful member of St. James° Anglican Church, Wroxeter, and following its closing, of St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Gorrie. Left to mourn her passing are seven nieces and three nephews: Elizabeth McKercher, Jamestown; Millie Nixon, Fordwich; Lenore Wilson, Wingham; Jeanette Dug- gan, Stayner; Maybelle Hoffman, Toronto; Lenore Glenn, Lucknow; Margaret Morton, London; Lloyd Griffith, Bluevale; Stewart Griffith, London and Raymond Adams, Kitchener; as well as several great- nieces and great-nephews. Friends and relatives paid their respects at the Gorrie Chapel of Watts Funeral Homes where she rested until Tuesday, April 25. The funeral and committal service was conducted by Rev. Douglas Madge at three o'clock. Final resting place is Wroxeter Cemetery. In remembrance, donations to St. Griffith Howick Stephen's Ang ican Church or a charity of one's choice would be appreciated. Lengthy illness ends in death Following a lengthy illness, there passed away Wednesday, April 26, at Wingham and District Hospital Violet Day, beloved wife of the late Earl Underwood, in her 87th year. She was the loving mother of Jack and Shirley Underwood of. Wingham; loved grandmother of Kevin Underwood of Guelph and Brenda Sangster of Waterdown and great-grandmother of Jackie Muir of Hamilton; dear sister of Olive May Underwood and the late Mary Day and Edwin Day' She was the daughter of the late Margaret Ann Dunlop and Thomas Wilson Day. The late Mrs. Underwood rested at Watts Funeral Home, Gorrie Chapel, on Friday. Funeral service was held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon, with Rev. Brenda Clarke officiating. Interment followed in Gorrie Cemetery. Ladies' Auxiliary to Legion Branch 307 held a memorial service Friday evening. In remembrance, donations to St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Gorrie, would be appreci- ated. VCA dinner raises $ 8,000 for foundation A fund-raising dinner to benefit the Wawanosh Nature Centre for Conservation Education was held April 15 at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre. The event, hosted by the Maipand Con- servation Foundation, r*ised about $8,100. —The conservation foundation was thrilled by the number of enthusiastic supporters who attended this, our first major fund- raising event, or provided dona- tions of goods or financial sup- port," notes Vince Judge, conserva- tion foundation chairman. Proceeds from the event will help to fund improvements to facilities at the Wawanosh Nature Centre. These improvements are nearing completion and include additional classroom space, new washrooms and better wheelchair access. The nature centre, operated by the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority, is 'visited by a total of 5,000 school children annually from the counties of Huron, Perth, Bruce and Wellington. The centre is locat- ed on Concession 6-7 of East Wawanosh Township. The fund-raising dinner, attended by over 200 people, featured a raf- fle, live and silent auctions and local entertainers. With the success of this event, the conservation foun- dation hopes to be able to make this fund-raising dinner an annual event. Couple attends confirmation of granddaughter Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Kieffer of RR 1, Bluevale, attended the confirma- tion of their granddaughter, Krista Anne Schreiter, at Blessed Sacra- ment Church, Kitchener, on Sun- day, April 23. Bishop Tonnos of Hamilton conferred the Sacrament on the large class of candidates. Others attending were Mr. and Mrs. Dan Girardi and daughters of Kitchener (Mrs. Girardi being Krista's sponsor); Mr. and Mrs Michael Schreiter of Nobleton; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Weishar and daughters of Stratford; Mr. and Mrs. Al Schreiter and Mrs. Judy Danwliw and children, all of Mis- sissauga. A reception in Krista's honor was hosted by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reinhart Schreiter, at their Kitchgn- er home.
