tion will conduct provincial
reviews in three mathematics
courses during the next school year,

A boost has been provided to the
Blyth Festival Capital Building
Fund, Brian O'Malley, president of
Standard Trust, has announced that
the company will match all dona-
tions received at its branches, to a
maximum of $5,000.
In announcing Standard Trust's
support of the festival, Mr. O'Mal-
ley says, "It's entirely fitting that
Standard Trust should encourage
support for the Blyth Festival. We
feel very much part of Western
Ontario and the festival is a
remarkable achievement that
deserves the help of all of us.
"The festival is important to our
customers."
Standard Trust has 35 offices
across Canada, including Goderich,
Exeter, Listowel, Walkerton and
Wingham.

Crime Stoppers of Huron Coun-
ty is seeking the assistance of the
public to help solve this break -
enter -and -theft.
On April 17, 19 , a residence at
Lot 12, Con. 2 of Tuckersmith
Township was entered when a thief
broke a door window. The thief
then stole one fishing pole and reel
— the pole is brownish green in
color, with the tip broken off — one
fishing tackle box, beige in color
with a blue carrying handle and
locking clasp, and one pair of prun-
ing shears with wooden handles.
While in the house, the thief
smashed several windows and win-
dow frames, broke the bathroom
sink, and ripped some panelling off
the walls.
The thief was seen in the area
and is described as being 15 to 17
years old, 5'8" to 5'10", and wear-
ing a light blue, long winter coat.

Education Minister Chris Ward has
annoUnced.
Mr. Ward told delegates to the
Ontario Association for Curriculum
Development annual conference in
London that the reviews will be
conducted at the Grade 8, 10 and 12
levels.
The Grade 8 mathematics review
will provide detailed information
about achievement of students at
the end of their elementary school-
ing.
The Grade 10 general level
review will provide a picture of
achievement in the fundamentals of
mathematics for students, most of
whom will be specializing in math-
ematics for business or mathemat-
ics for technology after Grade 10.
The Grade 12 review will indicate
the degree of achievement in
advanced level mathematics by
Grade 12 students, many of whom
are bound for university.
Provincial reviews are designed
to assess student achievement
province -wide and provide infor-
mation for program improvement
at the board and school level.
The ministry's provincial reviews
are based on a sample of 100
English and 100 French -language
schools throughout the province.
In addition, school boards are
invited to participate on a volun-
tary basis to obtain confidential
results for their boards and for each
Jf their schools.
The reviews were started in 1987
following the recommendation of a
provincial advisory committee on
evaluation policies and practices.
Results of the Canadian Studies
Geography review, a pilot project
carried out in 1986-87, were
released in May of 1988. Results of
the 1987-88 reviews in advanced
level .chemistry and physics will be
released later this spring.
Currently, reviews are under way
in Grade 6 reading and mathemat-
ics. Results will be released during
the 1989-90 school year.

in $873,000
PRIDE funds
Morris Township is among six
Huron County municipalities that
will receive funds under the
provincial government's Program
for Renewal, Improvement, Devel-
opment and Economic revitilization
(PRIDE).
Agriculture and Food Minister
Jack Riddell, Huron MPP, has
announced on behalf of Municipal
Affairs Minister John Eakins that a
total of $873,000 has been awarded
to the six municipalities for the fol-
lowing local improvement projects:
—Morris Township, $38,000, to
improve roads and sidewalks, and
for the Belgrave Community Hall.
--Zurich, $170,000, to repair
drains and sidewalks, and to reno-
vate community centre.
—Tuckersrni th Township,
$200,000, to improve municipal ser-
vices at the Vanastra Park recre-
ation centre.
—Hullett Township, $75,000, to
improve roads and sidewalks in
Auburn.
—Town of Coderich, $250,000, to
develop St. Christopher Cove
waterfront, and to construct roads
in adjacent neighborhood.
—Town of Exeter, $140,000, to
improve roads and sidewalks,
wheelchair access, and recreational
facilities.
