SENIORS' DAY
CENTRE NEWS
By Christine Gibson
Laughter filled the day centre last
week as we sat down to watch our
afternoon movie. Instead of picking
an old favorite, we decided to view
"Three Men and a Baby", a new
movie. The show and hot -buttered
popcorn were enjoyed by everyone.
Thursday, April 20, marked our
10th anniversary. An enjoyable
afternoon was put together by our
ad-hoc committee. After greetings,
our guest speaker, Dr. Anne Mar-
tin -Matthews, enlightened us on
the studies of gerontology and
wherejt is today.
Ten-year service awards also
were presented to a number of ded-
icated volunteers. Many past staff,
volunteers and board members
were able to come for the afternoon.
It was a great time at the social
hour to meet and talk with old
friends.
Our next foot clinics are sched-
uled for April 26 and May 3 from 1
to 3 p.m. Please call 357-1440 or
357-1445 for an appointment.
This week we will be working at
our craft program. Some projects
we will be working on include'
ceramics, quilt tying and potpourri
sachets. We decided to beat the
rush and start to get ready for our
annual craft and bake sale to be
held in November.
May is almost upon us now. Our
May calendars will be available this
week at the centre.
Fordwich Guides
and Brownies
enjoy campout
FORDWICH—The 22 girls of the
1st Fordwich Brownies enjoyed
April 14-16 at Camp Keewaydin
near Amberley. The adult leaders
were Brown Owl, Marilyn King;
Tawny Owl, Genny Leach and
Snowy Owl, Liz Rellinger. Parent
helpers were Linda Miller and
Tammy Noble.
Friday night, the girls made
themselves a headband depicting
one of four Indian tribes. They then
prepared a modern version -of ban -
nock, the simple bread our British
ancestors introduced to the Ameri-
can natives. Saturday and Sunday
were filled with activities, includ-
ing the making of a personal first-
aid kit, a nature mobile, a puppet
and a woven bracelet.
Twenty-seven people returned
hone tired but inspired by their
time together. In the next few
weeks, the Brownies and Guides
will be canvassing with their Girl
Guide cookies.
